It isn’t often that a top-ranked team can lose a match and yet hold on to its #1 ranking. Yet, in this week’s Nebraska Elite High School Volleyball rankings, that’s the case for a pair of teams.

Millard West bounced back from a five-set loss to Millard North last night to sweep previous #2 Lincoln Southwest in Lincoln the following night. So, in a year where every other team in Class A has at least six losses, the 20-2 Wildcats still hold firmly at #1 in Class A. Millard West will face a challenge Tuesday night when it travels to #4 Grand Island for a triangular which includes Norfolk. The Islanders have not lost on their home court this season, which includes a win over #5 Lincoln Southeast in early September.

Hastings St. Cecilia remains #1 as well in Class C-2 despite a loss against Class C-1 #1 Columbus Scotus on Saturday in the finals of the Centennial Conference Tournament. The Hawkettes have lost just two sets all year long to teams in Class C-2 or lower – both came in a five-set win over #9 Blue Hill a month ago.

Scotus stays #1 in Class C-1 with the Centennial championship and Grand Island Northwest, ranked 47th in the nation by prepvolleyball.com, are still atop Class B with a perfect record of 24-0.

Class D-1 is the only place where there is a change atop the rankings. St. Mary’s swept matches at its own triangular as well as in a double triangular at Stuart to move to 17-1 on the season. The Cardinals replace North Platte St. Patrick’s at the top after the Lady Irish got swept in three of the five matches they played last week.

Bertrand remains #1 Class D-2 and is the only other undefeated team left in the state along with Northwest. The Vikings of Bertrand have dropped just three sets total in the 20 matches they have played.
