After the Silver Hawks, 25-9, comfortably controlled the third set, the Crusaders responded to put the match away in the fourth. Marian, which improved to 31-11 and advanced to Friday’s semifinals, jumped out to a 10-4 lead early in the fourth set on an ace by Sydney O’Shaughnessy.
The Silver Hawks clawed their way back to within 11-8 on a kill by 6-foot-1 sophomore Allie Davis, but two kills by Marian’s Elizabeth Loschen and a hitting error by Southwest allowed the Crusaders to go up 14-8. Loschen and Kelsey O’Connell controlled the net from that point forward and a kill by Hannah Mueller put Marian ahead 22-12 en route to a 25-14 win in the final set.
