GRAND ISLAND – Omaha Marian will be back in the Class A state volleyball championship after the Crusaders defeated Lincoln Southeast 25-18, 25-16, 27-25 in the semifinals at Heartland Event Center today.
With the victory, Marian will face Millard West at 1 p.m. tomorrow for the Class A title.
Marian comfortably controlled the first two sets against the Knights in building a 2-0 lead, but when a Kylee Wurster dump kill gave Southeast a 24-22 lead in the third set, the Knights looked like they were mounting a comeback.
However, Marian got kills from Elizabeth Loschen and Lauren Gamm to tie the match at 24-24 and the combo did it again (back-to-back kills by Loschen & Gamm) with the scored tied at 25-25 to give the Crusaders the 27-25 victory in the third set.
Loschen finished with a team-high 15 kills for Marian while Kelsey O’Connell added 10. Brittany Witt led the Crusader defense with 18 digs and Sydney O’Shaughnessy had 39 assists.
Meagen Roth led Lincoln Southeast with 15 kills and Tyra Douglas had seven. Wurster finished with 25 assists.
