GRAND ISLAND – In a subdistrict tournament that featured the only field with four teams with 19 or more wins on the season, it was the team with the most losses that came away as the Class C2-8 champions.
Fourth-seeded Hastings St. Cecilia (21-11) swept top-seeded Nebraska Christian (23-5) in the semifinals and then did the same to Doniphan-Trumbull (23-8) in a 25-19, 25-18, 28-26 victory in the championship to advance to the C2-4 district final on Thursday against either Sutton or Sandy Creek. Doniphan-Trumbull defeated 20-8 Centura in the other semifinal to reach the championship.
