This is the third article in the series The Volleyball Interview, highlighting influential high school Nebraska volleyball players of all ages and levels to get to know them on and off the court on deeper level.
Tori Thomas is a sophomore at Hastings St. Cecilia. She is a monster 6-foot outside hitter ranked 7th in the Prep Dig Nebraska Class of 2020 rankings. Here is my interview with Tori:
Do you have any pre-game rituals?
“My pre-game ritual would be going to daily mass at St. Cecilia’s and straightening my super frizzy hair.”
What is your go to outfit on non-game days?
“I have to wear a uniform to school, but on non-game days my hair is up in a bun and I’m usually wearing a comfy sweatshirt.”
What are your nicknames on the team?
“Everyone calls me Tor… but occasionally I get called El Toro… “the bull” in Spanish.”
What is your favorite pre-game meal?
“I eat a sandwich, lots of fruit, and a candy bar before every game.”
What is your favorite warm up song?
“Usually the St. Cecilia’s pep band gets me pumped before game time. Crazy Train is my favorite.”
Who is your favorite professional volleyball player?
“Kerri Walsh Jennings is an outstanding athlete. So she’d be my favorite professional volleyball player.”
Who is the toughest player or team you will play this season?
“The toughest teams we will play are probably GICC or Lincoln Lutheran. There’s so many talented teams on our schedule!”
What team do you want to beat most this season and why?
“I really want to beat Centura because they’re currently rated #1 in C-2 and they’re in our subdistrict.”
What is your favorite drill in practice?
“My favorite drill is 4 on 4.”
If you could pepper with one volleyball player in the world, who would it be?
“I would pepper with Jordan Larson. That would be amazing!”
What is your favorite thing about playing volleyball?
“My favorite thing about volleyball is the thrill of getting a kill, celebrating a win with my team, and giving all glory to God.”
What is your favorite moment in your high school volleyball career?
“My favorite moment of my high school career is upsetting Crofton last year at the state tournament.”
