SubscribeThe biggest tournament in the state of Wisconsin this weekend will be the JVA Jamboree held in Milwaukee at the Wisconsin Center Downtown, but that’s not to say Wisconsin has other clubs playing in some top notch volleyball events around the Midwest. Many 17 and 18s teams will be at GLPL this weekend and Milwaukee Sting 15 and 16 Gold will be playing at one of the top tournaments in the country at the Central Zone Invitational in Indianapolis at the Convention Center. Here is a quick preview and a few teams to keep track of this weekend outside the JVA Jamboree.
Weekend 3 of 17/18 GLPL
By weekend three of GLPL most of the teams have been sorted out into pools based on records and who they’ve played which will make for extremely competitive matches with teams of like ability levels. For FC Elite, the ability level means playing teams full of Division 1 talent. With a 7-1 overall record at GLPL so far, they will be going up against some of the top teams in the nation in Sports Performance 18 Elite, Sports Performance 18 Kahl, and Sky High Adidas 18 Black.
Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold will be in Silver Pool A as a three seed with Michio Chicago 17s and 18s along with Wildcats Jrs. 18 Black. This 17 Gold team, led by Dru Kuck, Kayce Litzau, and Brianna Scuric is very scrappy. They’ve had some close loses and have the weapons to compete with any team in the nation. Look for Sting to make an upgrade in their pool by the end of this weekend.
Copper Pool A will be quite the match up featuring Badger Region teams. Capital 17 and 18 Adidas are both in this pool which means they will play each other at some point and Milwaukee Sting 17 Black will be in this as well. Two will move up, and two will move down all depending on the crossover matches to closeout the weekend Sunday afternoon.
In the PM shift of GLPL, there will be three Badger Region teams playing out of eight in the B Bracket. The top three teams will move into the A Bracket for Sunday, four and five stay in the B Bracket, and six through eighth places will move down into the C Bracket. Southwest was off to a blazing start and is now in Bracket B joined by Wisconsin Juniors 17-1 and Wisconsin Ice 18 National.
Central Time Zone Invite – Indianapolis
This will be the first big tournament for Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold and 16 Gold when they compete at the Central Time Zone Invite in Indianapolis. This tournament features some of the top ranked teams in the nation and Division 1 college coaches from all over the country. Wisconsin, Florida, Stanford, and Kentucky to name just a few.
Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold which already has two Big 10 commits in Mckenna Wucherer going to Minnesota and Brooke Mosher going to Illinois. There are a number of other athletes on this team being pursued by Division 1 teams as well. This event will give them great exposure. With the overall 14 seed, Sting will be squared up with Mintonette out of Columbus, OH in pool play which has a lot of similarities to Sting with tradition and a gym full of future Division 1 talent.
Milwaukee Sting 16 Gold has Aubrey Hamilton committed to Notre Dame and Kiara Reinhardt heading to Creighton. A newcomer to this team who will be making an instant impact is Elise Goetzinger from Mount Horeb. A strong, physical, 6’3 middle who is on the rise. This will be a great opportunity for her to get some exposure to coaches from around the country. 16 Gold has the overall 7 seed with the likes of Mintonette, Sports Performance 16 Elite, Circle City, A5 out of Atlanta, and KiVA out of Louisville. This could be the first of plenty of match ups with these clubs with Sting heading to Louisville twice for tournaments and Showdown in the Smokies in Tennessee.
