SubscribeMaybe the most physical player in the state at the net, Omaha Duchesne’s Mayah Delgado of Nebraska Elite 16 Vici has turned heads at some really impressive college programs with her play.
A huge part of the revitalization of Omaha Duchesne as a volleyball power in Class B, Delgado is a force at the net. Despite being limited to just 24 matches this past fall because of injury, Delgado had 219 kills (3.5 per set) while hitting an astonishing .497 and had 38 blocks.
She’s been healthy all club season and has continued to be a force for Nebraska Elite 16 Vici. In fact, the 6’0 sophomore MB/RS just helped lead her team to a top-10 finish in 16 Open Denver and made a visit to Colorado State on her way home. The Rams – which have former Nebraskans Olivia Nicholson (North Platte) and Amanda Young (Gretna) on the team, impressed Delgado.
“I really loved Colorado State’s coaching staff and how they train their athletes, it’d be amazing to be a part of,” she said.
But, don’t think that means Colorado State is for sure the front runner for Delgado. There’s also strong interest in Creighton, Omaha, Wake Forest, Northern Colorado, Stony Brook and Northeastern.
“Creighton is up there because I’ve been around the community all my life and when I watch them play, they play with so much intensity and love. I’d like to commit after I’ve been to some visits and college camps so I can really get to know the school,” Delgado said. “Ideally, sometime during the summer going into my junior year. Im looking for a DI program with good academics, a winning tradition and somewhere I feel at home at!”
