SubscribeORLANDO – On the first day of competition at the AAU National Championships, Nebraska Elite 15 Revolution, VCNebraska 15 Elite and Nebraska ONE 15 Shockerz advanced in the 15 Open Division on Sunday.
Because it was playing in a five-team pool, Nebraska Elite 15 Revolution had four matches, sweeping all of them for a perfect 4-0 start. Revolution came into the 45-team division as the #12 overall seed and in its final match on Sunday it knocked off #11 overall seed A5 Mizuno 152 25-23, 25-18. Revolution also scored sweeps over Mauloa, Vision Indy 15 Elite and Infinity VBA.
The number of teams left in championship contention dropped to 36 enter play on Monday. Revolution is in a second-day pool with Minnesota Select 151, WIldcat Juniors 151 of Chicago and K2 15 Adidas. Revolution must finish in the top two in its pool today to advance to the top 18.
VCNebraska 15 Elite also advanced to the championship round of 36 by going 2-1 on Sunday to finish second in its pool. VCN defeated GVA 27-25, 25-23 and then knocked off Illini Elite 25-16, 16-25, 15-11 to secure moving on. Today, VCN will need to finish in the top two of its pool and takes on Northern Lights 151 of Minneapolis and Synergy Force.
Nebraska ONE 15 Shockerz went 1-2 on the first day, beating Idaho Crush 25-20, 22-25, 15-8 but falling to A5 South 151 and Xceleration VBC. That performance was still good enough to keep Shockerz alive in championship play. Shockerz will take on Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold, Volley Top 15 and GVA.
Also competing in the 15 Open division is Nebraska Juniors 151, although it went 0-3 on the first day of competition to fall out of title contention.
Nebraska Juniors went 0-3 on Sunday, dropping matches to K2 15 Adidas, Legacy 15 Elite and Club Vinaka.
Also competing in Orlando right now in the 15 Premier Division, both VCNebraska 15 Black and Club Legacy 15 Prism went 0-3 on Sunday to fall out of championship contention.
