Continue ReadingWisconsin has its big power clubs like any other state, but it also has quite a few underrated and possibly just undiscovered clubs. Adversity Wisconsin VBC is one of those. Coach Dave Pauers has built a tremendous club and summer camp program with a great deal of positivity, knowledge, and hard work. Pauers has developed a great deal of athletes that have gone on to make bigger national clubs as well as play at the next level. The 2018 Adversity 16-1’s are a special group that placed 5th at AAU Nationals in 2017. Here are some top 2020 recruits from this team.
Alli Schwartz – 5’1” – Setter/Defensive Specialist – Sussex Hamilton
Schwartz may be on the small side, but as a small player myself, I know that doesn’t mean she PLAYS small. She has impeccable set distribution, which tells us she has great ball control and foresight that could be used as a defensive specialist. Schwartz has unbeatable footspeed and an aggressive serve, coupled with a high serving percentage that means trouble for opponents serve-receive.
Elsa Copes – 5’8” – Outside Hitter – Cedarburg
Copes is a 6-rotation outside with great ball control and an amazing passer. She racks up points by executing the line shot and serving smart. Copes is also a tremendous leader for her Adversity team.
Lexi Cross – 5’10” – Middle Blocker – Sussex Hamilton
Cross is a key to Adversity defense with her strong blocking. She is a smart middle blocker that knows how to attack around the block with good positioning and seeing the block. Cross also has the focus and ability to close out games.
MiKenna Sterr – 5’8” – Middle Blocker/Pin Hitter – West Bend East
Sterr was an AAU All-American in 2017, and I can see why. Depending on the rotation and what type of offense her team is running, she plays anywhere and everywhere in the front row, and she gets it done. Sterr is as competitive as it comes, and she drives her team to victory.
Mya Verdillo – 5’0” – Libero – Franklin
Verdillo does not understand the word “quit”, and it shows in her relentless defense. As Adversity’s top Libero, her volleyball IQ and timing is key in making the most of her contacts, whether it is a 1st or 2nd contact. Verdillo knows how to protect her team’s back court.
