Each day we will release more Class of 2020 rankings until we get to the top. We’ve increased the number of ranked players to 185 for this class! Remember, these lists are fluid and updated often, so if you are ranked, congratulations and just know that people will be gunning to take your place wherever you are ranked. If you are not ranked, please remember that we do the best that we can to see and evaluate as many players in the state as possible during the high school and club seasons. Just because you aren’t ranked now doesn’t mean you won’t be in the future.
For now, here are the players that are ranked #11-25. Congrats and best of luck this upcoming high school season. Thanks for all you do to make high school volleyball in Nebraska so amazing!
#25 – Sam Steele, 5’6, Libero, Millard South (River City Juniors) – uncommitted
Steele is as steady as they come in the back row and has been a big part of Millard South’s varsity team the past two seasons. She’s starting to grow and fill out and she has some of the best fundamental qualities in the state.
#24 – Kathryn Kilzer, 5’10, OH, Omaha Marian (Nebraska Elite) – uncommitted
Kilzer hasn’t had an opportunity to shine during the high school season yet, but that looks like it might change this fall. Omaha Marian has a pair of Division I outsides, but Kilzer is good enough she might find her way onto the court.
#23 – Annika Evans, 5’8, Setter, Waverly (VCNebraska) – uncommitted
Evans has started to push her way to the top of the second-tier of setters in her class. She has really good ball placement and hands and is athletic enough to run a 5-1 at the next level.
#22 – Katie Maser, 5’9, Setter, Grand Island Central Catholic (Nebraska Juniors) – Creighton
Maser is pretty much right there is the top setter in the class – Brooklyn Schram – in terms of her soft hands and ability to consistently deliver soft, on-target sets for her hitters.
#21 – Lucy O’Brien, 5’5, Libero, Omaha Marian (Nebraska Elite) – uncommitted
O’Brien has been one of the top liberos in the club scene for a couple years now, but when you play at Marian – especially in the back row – playing time is hard to come by. O’Brien should have a shot at the jersey for the Crusaders this fall.
#20 – Kenedy Schaecher, 5’5, Libero, Gretna (Premier) – uncommitted
A really strong summer as helped push Schaecher to the top of the class when it comes to liberos. She has a slight frame and build, but her has really good footwork, anticipation, a consistent platform and ability to deaden the ball.
#19 – Chloe Paschal, 5’8, OH/DS, Papillion-LaVista (Premier) – uncommitted
Paschal is a “tweener” in the sense that she is a very good attacker at the high school level and could certainly find a really small college program where she could still hit, but her future is mostly in the back row and she really excels as a passer.
#18 – Lauryn Samuelson, 6’0, OH/MH, Southern Valley – uncommitted
Samuelson is coming off of a knee injury, so it will be interesting to see how she performs this season. But, if it is anything like her first two years of high school, the athletic and powerful hitter will probably find her way to a top GPAC program or D2 school.
#17 – Jensen Rowse, 5’9, OH/DS, Minden (VCNebraska) – uncommitted
I frankly don’t know where Rowse fits in as a college player, but I know this: she’s a helluva high school player. She does it all and is a powerful attacker. She’s a naturally gifted player that is fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game.
#16 – Lydia Yost, 5’11, OH, Gretna (Premier) – uncommitted
Yost is a really gifted attacker with the ability to elevate and terminate with some of the best in the state. While she lacks the ideal height for big-time college volleyball, she’s going to make some college program extremely happy.
#15 – Lauren Emanuel, 6’2, MB, North Bend – uncommitted
Emanuel is probably the most intriguing prospect in the class because she has so much raw ability, but she doesn’t get seen much and doesn’t play major club volleyball. She has an electric and quick arm and is an outstanding blocker.
#14 – Tria McLean, 5’11, Setter, Battle Creek (Nebraska Elite) – Ohio University
Right now, McLean is still more of an athlete than she is a volleyball player, but that is changing pretty quick. There aren’t many setters out there that can jump-touch 10-feet, but McLean did. She will only continue to get better.
#13 – Paige Fixemer, 6’1, MH/RS, Millard South (Premier) – uncommitted
Fixemer has the frame and size that you are looking for out of a college middle and she has the potential to be a physical force at the net in Class A this year. With a little more consistency and quickness she has a chance to be big-time.
#12 – Brooklyn Schram, 5’11, Setter, Papillion-LaVista (Premier) – South Dakota
Schram has basically shown the top-level setting abilities that have made her the top one in the class since she started playing club volleyball. She possess pretty much everything you’re looking for in a setter.
#11 – Molly Plahn, 6’1, MH/RS, Millard North (Nebraska Elite) – uncommitted
Plahn has jaw-dropping ability when things click for her and they’ve been clicking more and more as of late. She’s not seen a ton of varsity time for a Millard North program that’s loaded with size at the net, but Plahn is a Division I player with a big upside.
