Continue ReadingKayce Litzau is a top recruit from the 2019 class, and she is gearing up for her senior season while attending Greendale High School. Litzau is a 6’0″ setter and right side that plays for Milwaukee Sting and has committed to play at Wichita State University. In one year she will be a freshman on a top tier Division I program, so we decided to give other prep athletes and their parents an idea of what that final year of high school looks like for a top recruit. We started out with a couple fun questions:
Who is your favorite sports hero?
“I have never had a favorite sports hero. Throughout my life, I had always just enjoyed watching teams and athletes that excelled in their sports while playing the game that they love. These people inspired me to always work hard and do the best that I can 100% of the time. “
What are three reasons you like being part of a team sport?
“I love being on a team sport because you are all working towards one goal, winning. In order to achieve this you have to understand how to work with teammates with varying personalities. This is a great learning opportunity to become a better and more understanding person and teammate. Being on a team is also great because you know that your teammates will always have your back, and you will have theirs in return. I also love being on a team because your teammates are relying on you to play your best, so you can never slack off in practice or in games because it not only hurts you, but your team as a whole. “
Kayce’s Summer…
“This past summer for me has been quite busy. It started off in June with AAU Nationals in Orlando. At Nationals I played with my club team, Milwaukee Sting 17 Gold. I had a great time with my teammates in Orlando, both on and off the court. My team and I played very well throughout the tournament, but just didn’t finish up how we wanted.
Then in July I went to the UWM team camp with my high school team. At team camp we got ready for our upcoming season by competing against other teams and trying to find the best lineup with the players that were there. Also, in July I went on a family vacation to Avalon, New Jersey. This was an extremely fun week of spending time on the beach with my whole family. In Avalon I was able to go to an indoor/outdoor workout facility where I worked out with my sister Lauren (who plays volleyball at Minnesota).
Right after this vacation, I went straight to Wichita State to attend the elite volleyball camp. While at this camp, I was able to meet a bunch of my future teammates and spend time talking and playing with them. Then in August my schedule became quite busy with having to balance high school volleyball and marching band (yup, I play the snare drum in the drumline at Greendale). These August days seem to be the longest, yet the most fun, going from 5 1/2 hours of band practice to volleyball practice for another 2 hours. My summer goes by so quickly and, before I know it, school will be starting again. “
Preparation for the final season….
“In order to prepare for our upcoming season, we competed in the team camp at UWM and in the summer league at the Milwaukee Sting Center. In both of these, we were able to compete with many of the top high school teams from around the area. This was very beneficial because it allowed us to be able to come together as a team and compete before our season even started. “
Gear up!
“The gear that I use for volleyball doesn’t change very often. I usually get a pair of knee pads and shoes for a whole year and my ankle braces I keep for multiple years. I have always had the white Mizuno knee pads. My shoes tend to change every year, but most often they are a pair of white Adidas shoes that I think look slick, and the ankle braces that I use are the ultra ankle braces.
I am very excited to start off my last year at Greendale High School and am even more excited to get going with our high school volleyball season. I love being able to represent the village that I live in while playing the sport that I love. “
-Good luck, Kayce and her fellow Panthers!
