They continued that legacy by going undefeated this past weekend and beating out Oconomowoc for the top spot in their own home invite. While both teams had a solid day of volleyball with some big wins, Mukwonago took the match in two sets. This amazing group of athletes had to work together as a team and fight hard for this awesome win.
Both Mukwonago and Oconomowoc worked hard, each beating out Shoreland Lutheran, Howards Grove, River Valley, and Kenosha Bradford to make it to the championship match.
Going into the championship match, Mukwonago knew they couldn’t let off the gas. Mukwonago had an amazing 8 aces and 20 kills throughout the match, spread across six different players. Oconomowoc fought hard, but ultimately, the Indians won in two games.
Libero Abby Gardner (Class of 2021, Uncommitted) led the team in both digs and service receptions. Her speed and scrappy play kept the ball off the ground and playable for her teammates. Freshman, Faith Powers (Class of 2022, Uncommitted), and junior, Nicole Pozorski (Class of 2020, Uncommitted), led the team as setters, moving the ball around and creating opportunities for kills. Nicole also led the team in aces, contributing 3 in the championship match alone.
Senior Alayna Janksy (Committed to Eastern Michigan, Prep Dig Rank #17) not only led the team with 9 of their 20 kills, she also led the team in blocks and contributed 8 digs and 11 service receptions with no errors. An all around good player, her leadership on the court made a huge impact for the Indians.
In Oconomowoc’s battle against Mukwonago, junior Tayler Alden (Setter, Committed to Northern Iowa, Prep Dig Rank #2), was a stand out player. She led the team in kills and assists and also contributed two blocks and three digs. Freshman Haley Koch (Prep Dig Class of 2022 Watch List) is another notable athlete, leading the team in blocks and contributing 25% of the team’s total kills. Junior Caitlin Crawford (Committed to South Carolina) led the team in digs and service receptions, and provided consistency and leadership in the back court.
This was a big win for Mukwonago and an awesome way to move into the heart of the season. Mukwonago has also beat out Waukesha West, Slinger, Fort Atkinson, and Slinger, so far this season. They are definitely a team to watch as the season continues!
