Setters tend to be all around great athletes who are dedicated leaders that know the game inside and out both offensively and defensively. Many are so dynamic they go on to play in college and may even seamlessly transition to other positions such as defensive specialist depending on the need of their college team.
There are so many talented setters already signed up to play in the Expo including some of the top in the state in their classes. Here is a rundown of the top setters attending the Expo:
Emma Baierl, Class of 2022, Howards Grove, Prep Dig Class of 2022 Watch List
Emma is extremely talented and one of the clear leaders on any team she plays on. As a freshman on Howards Grove varsity team, she had 457 assists and 108 digs. This is an amazing accomplishment for such a young player.
Karli Johnson, Class of 2020, Lakeside Lutheran
Karli is the type of athlete who always wants to be challenged. She works hard and has a great energy on the court. Karli is an all around athlete and has a deep passion for the sport of volleyball.
Taylor Vanden Berg, Class of 2020, Appleton North, Prep Dig Rank #48
This past season was Taylor’s second year on varsity and she definitely made an impact. She had 691 assists, 112 digs, 73 blocks, 44 aces, and 73 kills. Her coach picked her as the player of the match 6 times this season. Taylor also made second team all-conference. A 6’0” setter and great leader she will be one to watch at the Prep Dig Top 250 Expo.
Rebekah Day, Class of 2020, Luxemburg-Casco
Rebekah day is quite the competitor. Her hard work and dedication to volleyball shined this past high school season as she brought in over 1,100 assists. You read that right! She also had 42 aces and 58 kills. Quite the impressive stats. She led her team to the sectional championships and earned Division 2 All State Honorable Mention Honors.
Lizzy Fortune, Class of 2020, McFarland
Lizzy is extremely athletic and has an infectious energy on the court. She works hard and has a lot of grit. As the varsity setter on McFarland for the last two years, she has clocked in over 1,300 assists, 900 of them during the 2018 season.
Maggie Lawrynk, Class of 2020, SPASH
As a first year varsity volleyball athlete, Maggie still brought in 93 assists, 97 digs, and 13 aces. She has a lot of potential and is an athlete to keep an eye on!
Sam Miller, Class of 2020, Waunakee
Sam was a second year varsity player in 2019 and started both years. She has a fierce serve and works hard on defense in addition to setting. Sam was just shy of 500 assists in 2018 and earned player of the match honors from her coach twice throughout the season.
Isabelle Schauer, Class of 2020, Watertown High School, Prep Dig Rank #28
Isabelle is the definition of grit. She will find a way to win no matter the circumstances which is one of the reasons she has been so successful in her volleyball career. She played on the Badger Region High Performance team this past summer and has all state honors. With over 2,000 assists, 499 digs, 135 aces, and 162 kills to her name in the past two years, Isabelle is one of the top setters to watch at the Prep Dig Expo this weekend.
Katelyn Lefler, Class of 2021, Sussex Hamilton, Prep Dig Rank #43
Katelyn had quite an impact in her first year on varsity for the Chargers. She contributed 288 assists as well as 58 aces and 152 digs. She has a lot of potential and should continue to grow throughout her volleyball career.
Janelle Stuempfig, Class of 2021, Sussex Hamilton, Prep Dig Rank #49
Janelle runs a fast and confident offense. She made All Conference for the 2018 season and hands down deserved that honor. Her speed and athleticism make her dangerous to any of her opponents. She contributed 658 assists in 2018 and was a true leader on the court.
With the Prep Dig Top 250 Expo coming up this weekend and club season just getting started, it is an exciting time of year for athletes. These setters are sure to have an impact on the college coaches attending the Expo this weekend!
