Continue ReadingLiberos are the leaders of the back row. They are expected to read the opposing offense, play great serve receive, and cover all of the other players on their team. The ability of the Libero can usually set a pretty good picture for the overall talent of the team. Check out these Liberos who stood out at the Winter Classic last weekend.
Natalie Hartzheim (Royal 16) Natalie is a Libero who really excels on serve receive. She was calm and collected even when the opponent went on runs; doing her job in the back row and allowing her teammates on offense to do their jobs. She was also extremely fast and made some challenging run throughs look quite easy.
Olivia Berger (414 16 Elite) Olivia had a lot of hustle which can always be appreciated! She worked hard, talked to her team, and never let a ball drop without getting a finger on it. Her hustle really stood out to me on the court.
Emily Nielsen (MWP 15 Black) Emily’s form is great. She is an athlete who is always looking to learn more and seems to improve every time she touches the court. She really excels on serve receive.
Lindsey Taylor (Royal 15) Lindsey’s speed is an amazing. She is scrappy and uses it to her advantage. She will run down any ball and isn’t afraid to dive into the bench or the spectators to save a ball.
Saige Damrow (FC Elite 16 Navy) Saige is the epitome of a great Libero. She is fast yet controlled, reads the court very well with very few errors, and is a strong leader on her team. She has a competitive serve and calls great shots for her hitters.
Abby Gardner (Midwest Penguins 16 Black, Prep Dig Rank #28) Abby’s drive is amazing. She is a fierce competitor and nothing drops on that court without her touching it. She is extremely quick and uses her speed to her advantage. Abby is an extremely fun athlete to watch.
Kallissa Jaeger (Motion 16 Blue, Prep Dig Rank #131) Kallissa has a truly awesome grasp of serve receive. Serve receive tends to give teams a lot of trouble, but her confidence in the back row is impressive. She also is a great defender, but truly shines on serve receive.
Katharine Walch (FC Elite 17 Navy, Prep Dig Rank #24) Is an extremely scrappy Libero who never lets a ball touch the ground. She is extremely gritty and doubles down, always pushing to play her best.
Having a great defense is key to winning matches, and these Liberos are truly great assets to their teams. Each of them has an insane amount of potential and would be great addition to any high school or college roster
