OMAHA – Kamryn Willman is excited to become a Flame.
Willman signed her letter of intent Thursday to play volleyball and continue her education at College of Saint Mary in the fall. The daughter of Kim and Lisa Willman is a 6-1 middle hitter who is a senior at Grand Island Central Catholic.
She plans to study elementary education at CSM.
“I like the town of Omaha and the small feel of College of Saint Mary,” Willman said. “I wasn’t looking for a big school and CSM seemed to be a good fit. I also really liked learning about the education department and what they have to offer, as well as meeting with the volleyball coach and the players on the team.”
Willman has played volleyball all four years at Grand Island Central Catholic. She’s been named all-conference, academic all-conference and all-state honorable mention. Willman and her teammates qualified for the state tournament in 2015 and were the Class C-1 state runners-up in 2017.
Willman says her greatest sports moment to date has been playing in the state championship and she considers Jordan Larson her favorite sports hero. Outside of volleyball she enjoys writing, reading and hanging out with friends.
CSM Coach Rick Pruett is excited to bring a player of Willman’s caliber to his squad next season.
“Kamryn will bring instant high-level play to our middle hitter position,” Pruett said. “She has played a leading role on the volleyball team for Grand Island CC – leading them to multiple state tournaments and a runner-up finish in 2017. She has played club volleyball for Nebraska One out of Lincoln (Neb.) and has led that team to multiple national tournaments.
“Kamryn is a competitor and really plays the game at a high level. She works hard and will really be a great addition to CSM volleyball.”
Willman’s sister Daryn is currently a junior on the CSM volleyball team.
Pruett is thrilled to announce the signing of Brianna Miller.
The daughter of Donald and Rhonda Miller is a 5-11 middle hitter at Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington, Neb.
“I’m excited to have Brianna join our program,” Pruett said. “She has been a great leader for Hartington Cedar Catholic. She has led her high school team to back-to-back state runner-up finishes. She is extremely athletic as a middle hitter and has good size standing at almost six feet.
“Brianna understands the game very well and works really hard. She’s equally impressive in the classroom, as well. Her work ethic, skill set and personality will be a great fit for CSM.”
Miller has participated in volleyball, basketball, track, dance/cheer and swimming over the years in high school. Some of her greatest accomplishments include: Norfolk Daily News All-Area Class C Second Team, NCPA Academic All-State, Omaha World Herald All-State honorable mention, Lincoln Journal Star honorable mention, Nebraska PrepDig All-State honorable mention and Mid-Stats All-Conference.
Her favorite sports hero is Jordan Larson and her greatest sports moment to date is when she and her teammates were Nebraska State Volleyball C-2 runners-up in 2017 and 2018. Her hobbies include playing the piano, running, reading, swimming and shopping.
Miller plans to study biology at CSM.
“I chose CSM because I wanted to be located in Omaha, but I didn’t want to be on an overwhelming campus,” she said. “The College of Saint Mary is the perfect size for me. When I came to CSM for my college visit I felt very welcomed. Everyone at CSM was excited about the school and excited to have me there.
“My family spends a lot of time in Omaha throughout the summer so Omaha feels like a second home to me.”
Emma Hern said she felt comfortable when she did her campus visit to College of Saint Mary. The 5-11 middle hitter signed her letter of intent to continue her education and volleyball career at CSM.
“I chose CSM because it is a great fit for me academically and athletically,” Hern said. “I have heard many great things about the school and when I visited I felt like it was the right fit for me.”
The daughter of Mike and Jean Hern is a senior at Marian High School. She plans to study nursing at CSM.
Hern has played volleyball for four years and has participated in basketball and track and field during her time at Marian. She says her greatest sports moment to date is “winning state my junior year” and said outside of volleyball she also enjoys camping and fishing.
Pruett is looking forward to adding Hern to his squad for the 2019-20 season.
“Emma is a great student-athlete,” Pruett said. “She is a kid that works really hard on and off the court. In the recruiting process I was really impressed with everything about Emma. On the volleyball court she has been a two-year starter for Marian, which is a perennial powerhouse in the state of Nebraska. She helped her team to a state championship last year and into the semifinals this year.
“Emma will give us some size as she has played both middle hitter and right-side hitter. I’m very excited to have her in our program the next four years.”
