Some Wisconsin teams are taking the weekend off, some are headed to Indy, and some are participating in more local tournaments. The Medford Storm 17’s Tournament in central Wisconsin will feature some of the “under the radar” talent that is playing in central Wisconsin. It is so tough to seed this early in the season, but CRVC 17 Pink will be one of the early favorites, as well as NW Stars 16 Black. One Wisconsin Antigo 17-1 out of north central Wisconsin also brings in a roster of potential talent.
WI Ice 16 PurpleWisconsin Ice 16 Purple out of central Wisconsin area won the Cadott 18’s Tournament 2 weeks ago, dropping one match to Legacy Elite 18s while also beating both Cadott Stingers 17 and EC Slam 17-1. The Stingers will look to bounce back after a tough opener, but they will have Small Town Storm 17 in their pool, who could provide a threat. Here is a quick glance at each pool heading into the Medford Storm 17s Tournament this weekend.
Pool A
Cadott Stingers 17-1
Small Town Storm 17
Medford Storm 17
1W Antigo 16-1
The Stingers out of Cadott have potential to be one of the top clubs in this tournament. This 17s crew features 5’9 outside hitter/setter Autumn Bremness (2020), who is a wicked lefty with an explosive vertical. Small Town Storm, which comes out of Cornell, WI, brings in a strong batch of athletes. Medford Storm 17s are the host and will be led by one of the top outsides/defensive specialist in the area in unsigned, Eve Akey (2020 – Merrill). 1W Antigo 16-1 out of the Antigo area, comprised of players from both Antigo and Northland Pines, may be a team that could sneak up on some people.
Pool B
CRVC 17 Pink
NW Stars 16 Black
Medford Storm 16
1W Antigo 17-1
CRVC 17 Pink, NW Stars 16 Black, and Medford Storm 16 are teams we don’t know a lot about, but we hope to learn more this weekend. We hope club teams will be updating their rosters on AES or on their websites. 1W Antigo 17-1 is led by Madelyn Mesun (2020 – Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter – Northland Pines) and Chloe Decker (2020 – Setter – Antigo). Antigo also has some 2021s with Clarissa Aulik (Outside Hitter – Antigo) and Graciana Dewan (Middle Blocker – Antigo).
Pool C
Emma ZubkeWI Ice 17 Black
EC Slam 17-1
1W Point 17 Red
WI Ice 16 Purple
WI Ice 17 Black is out of the central Wisconsin area, and will be bringing players from the Marawood and Wisconsin Valley conferences, including Emma Zubke (2020 – 5’5 – Outside Hitter – Newman), along with Briana Post (2020 – 5’4 – Defensive Specialist), Kailee Davis (2020 – 5’6 – Pin Hitter/Setter – Edgar), Mareike (2020 – 4’11 – Libero – Edgar) and Mikaela Christianson (2020 – 5’0 – Setter/Defensive Specialist – Edgar). EC Slam 17-1 has a pair of powerful attackers that we hope to get more information on this weekend. 1W Point 17 Red is based out of the Stevens Point area.
