Wright will become only the fourth coach in the history of the Nebraska powerhouse school, with Gwen Egbert (presently the head coach at Doane), Elena Pietro (presently an assistant at UNO), and Reichmuth being the previous three.
“Brad Reichmuth has stepped down as our head coach to maximize his time with his current counseling position at South,” Papillion-LaVista South Athletic Director Jeremy Van Ackeren said in a statement today. “Katie Wright, our current varsity assistant, will be our new head coach and will be the 4th head coach in the school’s history.”
Wright has been eyed as one of the top varsity assistants at the Class A level for a handful of years now and has a very prestigious background in the sport.
Katie (Stanzel) Wright is a 2001 graduate of Omaha Marian, where she was a member of the 1999 state volleyball championship team as well as a two-time state champion in basketball for the Crusaders. She was named the Nebraska Gatorade Volleyball Player of the Year in 2000-2001 as an outside hitter.
She went on to play for Kansas State from 2001-2005 and was a member of the 2003 Big 12 championship team for the Wildcats. She lived in California from 2006-2014 and moved back to Omaha and pursued her Masters in Education from College of St. Mary’s.
Her coaching background includes stints at River City Juniors, as an assistant at Omaha Marian in 2015 and 2016 and has been a special education teacher and varsity assistant at Papillion-LaVista South in 2017 and 2018.
