After all, it’s practically all she knows after playing for coaching legend Francie McBride at Winona State University, followed by a stint with Hall of Fame Coach Melissa Stokes at Missouri State. Amidst the fluctuation in talent, one thing remains urgent for Springfield club volleyball; aquiring Ozark High School volleyball players in the off season.
Missouri volleyball is broken into four classes with Ozark participating in the highest class. Historically, Ozark has made the state tournament almost every season under decorated coaches like Coach Brewer, Joanna Hayes and Becky Justis. However, it isn’t just about the coaches in the Ozark Volleyball program, it’s the athletes. Looking back through countless standouts like Jade Hayes (Univeristy of Missouri), Ashley Ophoven (Missouri State), All-American outside hitter Caroline Clifford (Columbia College), and All-American setter Kendra Sater (Drury Univeristy), one would wonder not where the talent comes from in an outlying city of Springfield, but also how it is sustained year after year.
My answer would be that Ozark is a volleyball city. Coaches, players, and even parents living within the city limits live and breathe volleyball 24-hours a day and 365 days a year. Coach Brewer is no exception to the rule, continuing to produce NCAA Division I athletes like future teammates at Missouri State, Kenadee Anderson, Holly Luginbill and Julia McCown, as well as Harvard commit Katie Vorhies. Not to mention a few DII commits in Brynn Bonewell (Rockhurst) and Haiden Baade (William Jewel), all in the 2019 class.
Clubs in the Springfield area like Thr33, Springfield Juniors, 417 Net Results, and Club Bear are sure to continue their success in large part thanks to the strength of the volleyball program at Ozark High School. And with a strong tradition of state tournament finishes, including nine titles out of the last 10 years, don’t be surprised to see Ozark continue producing top quality volleyball players and prospects for years to come.
