Continue ReadingKANSAS CITY – Make no mistake about it, aside from the AAU and USAV Open Division National Championships at the end of the club season, the tournament title that holds the most national prestige during the regular season is the Triple Crown Volleyball NIT and Premier 15 Gold was victorious in that tournament this weekend in Kansas City.
Premier 15 Gold posted a record of 8-1 over the weekend, winning 17 of the 22 sets it played against some of the best teams in the nation. Premier came into the tournament ranked #22 in the nation in the age division, but is likely to skyrocket up the rankings now.
Once Premier 15 Gold made the Elite Division championship bracket, the team really couldn’t be stopped. In the round of 32, Premier swept KC Power 151 25-15, 25-23 and then rallied for a 17-25, 25-20, 15-11 win over Munciana 15 Lorax in the round of 16.
KC Power entered the tournament ranked #19 in the nation and Munciana was ranked #53. In the championship quarterfinals, Premier 15 Gold knocked off Lonestar 15 Red 25-16, 27-25. Lonestar came into the tournament ranked #26 in the nation.
In the semifinals, Premier 15 Gold held-off #14 A5 25-13, 23-25, 15-12 and then defeated #25 CIS 15-M of Iowa 27-25, 25-20 to earn the championship. The 15-and-under division had 104 teams competing in it.
Several other club teams from Nebraska also competed in the tournament, here is how they finished.
Premier 16 Gold and Premier 17 Gold each finished in 18th place in their respective divisions while Premier 18 Gold finished 35th.
Nebraska Juniors 18 Black finished 75th in its division and Nebraska Juniors 17 Black finished 125th.
VCNebraska 16 Elite finished 45th in its division while VCNebraska 18 Elite was 50th, VCNebraska 17 Elite was 67th and VCNebraska 15 Elite was 77th.
