Ogallala has hired Shelly Byrn as the Indians new head volleyball coach, replacing the retired Morgan. Bryn has been the coach at North Platte St. Patrick’s for the past 17 years, putting together a record of 317-154 during that time. She has also had just one losing season in her career there. Morgan, who had been the only coach in Ogallala history, retired after 45 years. He never had a losing season in that time.
John Byrn, husband of Shelly Byrn, has also accepted the job as principal at Ogallala High School, according to the North Platte Telegraph.
“Bill McGahan gave me an opportunity to be the head volleyball coach at St. Pat’s 17 years ago and I have never regretted a single minute of it,” Byrn told the North Platte Telegraph. “We are so happy that both of our kids were able to be a part of North Platte Catholic Schools and the friendships that were made along the way. I am very thankful for the administration for their patience, guidance and support during my journey as head coach.
“With both kids grown and gone, I felt it was time to expand my coaching experience and the jobs at Ogallala for both my husband and myself just kind of fell in our laps,” Byrn said. “It all happened very quickly and they hired both of us, myself as head volleyball coach, teaching (physical education) and health and John as new principal starting in the fall. We took a leap of faith and landed in Ogallala.”
