VCNebraska 18 Elite, competing in the 18 National division went 3-0 in pool play today while Nebraska ONE 18 Titanium also went 3-0 in pool play in the 18 American division. Both teams are based out of Lincoln.
In the 48-team National division, teams are split into eight opening pools of six teams each. The teams compete in those pools the first two days. So, with VCNebraska going 3-0 in its pool, it still has two more pool matches to go. VCNebraska, however, is the only team in the pool at 3-0 after the first day. Rockwood Thunder of Missouri is 2-1, Premier 18 Black of Texas is 2-1 and Maverick 18 Elite of Ohio is also 2-1.
VCNebraska defeated Rockwood Thunder 25-19, 25-27, 17-15 in a thriller to end the first day, which also included a 2-1 win over Premier 18 Black (15-12) and a 2-1 win over 1W 181s (15-6). Tomorrow, VCNebraska will face Excel Northwest (0-3) and Maverick 18 Elite (2-1).
In order for VCNebraska to reach Sunday’s eight-team championship bracket, it must finish in the top three of its current pool. If it finishes first in its pool, it would need to win one more challenge match on Saturday evening to reach the championship bracket. If it finishes in second or third in its current pool, it would need to win two more challenge matches on Saturday evening to reach the championship match.
Meanwhile, in the 18 American division, Nebraska ONE 18 Titanium won its pool in the 64-team tournament to advance into the championship round of 32.
In the 18 American division, the top two teams from each of today’s 16 pools advanced and were reseeded into the round of 32. Titanium opened pool play today pounding RCTVC 18 Jason in two set and then swept WPVC 18Armour Elite Black before getting its toughest match of the day in a 25-12, 25-23 win over Michigan Elite 18 West.
By winning the pool, Titanium advanced on and now finds itself in a new pool as the #16 seed overall. Joining Titanium in its pool tomorrow will be TAV Houston 18 Black, MKE Sting 18 Black and Vital 18-1 Gold.
In order to advance to the championship bracket in the 18 American division, Titanium will need to finish in the top two of its four-team pool tomorrow and then win a challenge match Saturday evening to reach Sunday’s championship.
