Just two of the teams from the Cornhusker State – Premier 15 Gold and VCNebraska 16 Elite – advanced in title contention after the first day of pool play.
Premier 15 Gold – the top seed in 15 Open – went a perfect 3-0 on Saturday, which included a 25-21, 21-25, 16-14 victory over Southern California’s T-Street 15-Curtis, to hold onto that top seed heading into today’s competition. Premier 15 Gold also swept a pair of teams from Northern Texas (Knights 15 Adidas and Texas Pistols 15 Black) on Saturday.
VCNebraska 16 Elite pulled an incredible upset, knocking off Northern Lights 161 of Minneapolis 8-25, 25-23, 15-7 en route to a second-place finish in its pool on Saturday to stay in the 16 Open championship hunt. VCN also swept PLW and lost to Dynasty 161 out of Kansas City on Saturday.
It appeared initially that Premier 16 Gold would also move on in 16 Open after going undefeated on Saturday, but it was later discovered that there was an error on the team roster that resulted in the team playing with an “illegal player” and thus Premier 16 Gold was forced to forfeit all three matches.
In 15 Open, Nebraska Elite 15 KOA went 1-2 and VCNebraska 15 Elite went 0-3 and each will be in the consolation rounds the next two days. In 16 Open, Nebraska Juniors 16 Black went 0-3 and is in the consolation rounds.
Nebraska Elite 17 Frost, Nebraska Gold 17s and VCNebraska 17 Elite each went 1-2 in 17 Open and all three are now in consolation play.
