This weekend 11’s, 12’s, 14’s and 16’s are playing and next weekend will host the 13’s, 15’s, 17’s and 18’s. There are so many young athletes helping create a amusing, unpredictable event in addition to the entertainment that comes with the Dells. Here are 3 up and coming team from the 16’s divisions:
MidwestPenguins 16-Red (MPW) was undefeated claiming bragging rights and 1st place medals. They showed their dominance in pool play winning all matches in 2 sets. They have a very discipline team with strong serving and setting. MPW had a few other teams in the tournament confirming they are really becoming an elite club in the great Milwaukee area. Likewise their 16 Black performed well in the JVA World Challenge. Top players include: Kelli Brabson, Haley Gill, and Melissa Cunngingham.
VC United 16-1 Premier is another club with loads of talent. They made pretty easy work of the competition and managed to take the Penguins to three close sets. This group from Rockford, IL have strong defense in outsides: Jeleyana Fichtner, and Abigail Smith and Liberos: Lyndi Kenney and Leah Lies. This was their final tournament and they ended it with a strong 2nd place finish.
414 16 Elite/Blue Milwaukee’s 414 club ended the weekend in 3rd (Elite) and tied for 4th (Blue). Both teams have great coaching staff and have contributed to the level of play in the 16’s division. In fact, the Elite team will travel to Puerto Rico at the end of April. Carlos Cruz is the club director and 15 Elite coach with a wealth of knowledge, skills and connections to Puerto Rico; he coached the Women’s National team there, and was a professional player. These types of experiences and relationships are what club volleyball should be all about.
The 13’s, 15’s, 17’s and 18’s will fill the Dells again this coming weekend. It is sure to be another showing of the great competition with teams from Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota.
