Playing the in the National division, VCNebraska 18 Elite finished fifth in the tournament. There are five divisions at the USAV National Championships, starting with Open and working its way down from National, USA, American and Patriot.
VCNebraska came into the 48-team tournament as the #20 overall seed and the #3 seed in its initial pool on Friday and Saturday, but quickly proved those seedings where too low. VCNebraska wound up going 5-0 in its initial pool, knocking off traditional powerhouse teams like Rockwood Thunder 18 Elite and Premier 18 Black out of Texas to advance to the championship round of 16.
In that round, VCNebraska took a convincing 25-15, 27-25 win over Renovators 18-Kari to advance to the eight-team championship bracket on Sunday.
In the quarterfinals, Springfield 18 Blue out of Missouri edged out a 24-26, 25-23, 15-13 heart-breaking victory over VCNebraska 18 Elite, which gave the Lincoln-based team a tie for fifth place in the tournament. Laguna Beach 18MS wound up defeating Springfield in the semifinals and also wound up winning the tournament.
