Continue ReadingBrilee Wieseler saw limited action as a sophomore for Class B state champion Skutt Catholic this past fall, but there is no doubt she is one of the most intriguing prospects in the Nebraska 2021 class. She is currently ranked as the #8 overall prospect in the class and the second-best uncommitted player left in the class.
Wieseler, an explosive leaper and indicated in the photo above of her (#1) is capable of playing as a back row specialist/libero, and right side or a setter. The 5’9 Nebraska Elite product played in eight matches for the Skyhawks last season, totaling two kills, 10 digs and an ace serve. She has since transferred to Elkhorn South, where she will compete for the Storm beginning in the fall of 2019.
“I am keeping my options open and going to as many camps as possible this summer, which is difficult to get to all the college camps that i would like too, because there are so many overlapping camps,” Wieseler said.
She recently got news that she earned a spot for one of the USA Volleyball’s National Team Training programs in July in Florida for 10 days. That will complicate her schedule but is an opportunity she is extremely excited about and will only enhance her recruiting profile.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to train with some of the best, but had to back off on a few priority college camps to do,” Wieseler said. “This was an opportunity that i did not want to pass up on though!”
Wieseler said she did not go on any official visits prior to the May 1 recruiting changes and is leaning towards a career in physical therapy, so that is a priority in her recruiting process.
“As far as location, I am keeping my options open currently and want to be sure the place I choose is an overall good fit for me,” she said. “I have a twin brother, Bo, who wants to play collegiate football somewhere also, so I know that my family will likely be spread thin between the two us just as they always have been, because they all love to come watch us play. Would be nice if we both could get lucky enough to play at that same college.
“The recruiting process has been fun and crazy to keep up with having communication rules changing. My club coach Andrew Wehrli and also Tony Carrow both have been so helpful and keep me focused on what my goals are on where I want end up.”
Like a lot of athletes, Wieseler is also superstitious so she said she’s not going to take any chances by revealing the ideal schools in her mind.
“My Top 10 schools list is constantly changing, but my Top 5 has stayed the same since I was 5,” she said. “But, I don’t want to jinx myself and say who they are!
“Since we are within a freezing time with the new rule in place, my focus is solely on training harder than I ever have to continue to improve my skill set, agility & speed to be prepared & ready come July 2nd in Indianapolis (for the USAV Girls Junior National Championships).”
