Continue ReadingThe setters in the Nebraska Class of 2020 is ridiculously deep, with three setters already committed to Division I programs. Lincoln Christian’s 5’8 junior setter Barrett Power could potentially be joining the group.
Power, a Nebraska Juniors product, has racked up 1,667 assists, 138 ace serves, 584 digs and 234 kills during her first three seasons at Lincoln Christian. As she prepares for her senior campaign, Power is starting to narrow down her list of potential landing spots in college.
When I reached out to Power for an update on how things were going, I actually caught her on the recruiting trail.
“I’m actually on my way home from a visit to Montana State and camp at Gonzaga, so I’m using some airplane time to answer your questions,” she said. ” I’m talking with many different schools and coaches, working to narrow down which ones I will do camp at this summer.”
Power has taken official visits to Stony Brook, Biola and Concordia as well as her recent visit to Montana State. She said her schedule for summer camps so far includes a return to Stony Brook, Duke, Winthrop and Gonzaga.
“The biggest things I’m looking for are the opportunity to play high-level volleyball but also be at a school with high academics,” she said. “I had hoped to commit sometime during this club season, but the way everything shook out that didn’t happen. Many of the coaches I’ve had contact with were unable to see me play live this spring. Having to play 18s due to my birthday despite being a junior (in high school) also threw a little wrinkle in things.
“With all that being said, I am hoping to attend various camps throughout the summer and have a decision made before high school season starts in the fall.”
Concordia, Stony Brook and Montana State have all offered the Lincoln Christian standout.
While Power didn’t say which school she is most leaning towards at this point – she did drop a couple hints that suggest perhaps Montana State – which is in the Big Sky Conference – might have a leg-up on others at this point.
“With my sister Ashlyn playing in the Big Sky Conference, I am interested in going out west towards her, and potentially playing in her conference,” Power said.
