Theis found that place in Regis University of Denver, an NCAA Division II program which currently features former Elkhorn South standout Kelsey Green and is the college destination this summer of Papillion-LaVista South All-State setter Mara LeGrand.
Theis added to that Nebraska pipeline with her commitment and said she couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity that awaits her at Regis.
I chose (Regis) over a few other really great schools because they have an awesome team, but most importantly, they have great academic programs for the field of study I’m interested in,” Theis said. “The recruiting process was really fun fir me, but also stressful because it was a hard decision for me to make. I’m really happy with the choice I made because I absolutely loved the coaches, team, and campus and I’m super excited to play in Denver!”
As a junior this past fall, Theis averaged 4.1 kills per set to go along with a total of 221 digs and 446 serve receptions on the season. The Nebraska Juniors product has 654 kills in her career.
Theis said she pretty much knew from her first trip to Denver that Regis was the place she wanted to be, but she took multiple visits just to make sure.
“The first visit I went on, I absolutely fell in love with the campus. I also really liked the coaches and felt like I would fit in well not he team,” she said. “Then I went on a second visit a few months later, and it was a no-brainer. I practiced with the team, and after that I just felt like I couldn’t go anywhere else. That was all great, but the most important thing for me is academics, and they have some really great programs. I’m interested in going into medicine and they are fine of the few schools in the U.S. that has a neuroscience major, which seemed like a really great opportunity for me.
“Overall, I picked Regis because it had the combination I was looking for, which was a great school academically and a great volleyball program. I’m so happy that I found the right fit at Regis.”
