With this class being affected by the recruiting rule changes with communication with college coaches on pause until June 15 after their Sophomore year, there are plenty of athletes who will be in touch with Division 1 college coaches across the country. Just within the past couple days, top prospect Julia Bishop of Michigan Elite gave her verbal commit to Michigan State, joining the second ranked prospect in 2021, Aubrey O’Gorman who will also be a Spartan. Michigan State will have the top two in state prospects coming from this class. Besides Bishop and O’Gorman, who else is on the rise and will be looking to make a splash at Nationals?
Jenna Reitsma – FaR Out 16 Black – Outside Hitter
Reitsma has been incredibly explosive on the pin for FaR Out. Seeing Reitsma live at Motor City Madness, her aggressiveness and athletic ability was something to watch. With a cannon for an arm with a heavy ball to dig, she just finds a way to score points. With the O’Gorman sisters in the front line for FaR Out the defense has to be able to respect the outside and Reitsma does that and more. She has become a go to and one the defense has to key on in order to contain her ability to score points in a hurry.
Charlie Atiemo – Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno – Middle Blocker
Atiemo and Bishop have become quite the combo working together for MiElite this past season. What sets Atiemo apart from others is her ability to run various routes as a middle and hit anywhere in the front row with a variety of tempos. Being a middle blocker requires and extra motor to get from pin to pin while also being able to transition to become available offensively. Atiemo can do that and more, giving herself space to avoid hitting into a block and causing fits for the other side of the net.
Syndey Palazzolo – Legacy 16 Elite – Outside Hitter
Palazzolo is bound for a breakout Junior season and will be rising on the radar to college coaches this summer. An athletic pin, Plazzolo is able to score points in a variety of ways with a full repertoire of shots. Legacy 16 Elite has plenty of pieces in place to make a run at nationals this summer with multiple weapons to go to. They have proven they can be a dangerous team to contend with having beat Madfrogs out of Texas in pool play at Northern Lights in Minneapolis in April.
Madison Grace – Legacy 16 Elite – Pin/MB
Grace can flat out jump out of the gym. She brings an electricity to her game that allows her to score points playing well above the net, but she is also able to be a defensive force as well with her blocking ability. Whether she is needed in the middle with a fast twitch arm swing or the right side who can set a strong block and take an opposing outside hitter out of her game, she is one that will be fun to watch the next couple years of high school and club ball.
Abby Boyle – FaR Out 16 Black – Libero
Boyle was showing she could defend some of the top hitters at the 16s level at Triple Crown in Kansas City this past Presidents Day. Solid in serve receive and able to take pace off a heavy ball, Boyle is exactly what FaR Out needs in order to make a big run at AAU Nationals starting in a few weeks. A solid first contact to get her team in system will provide plenty of opportunities to score points.
