Prep Dig Summer League Set To Kickoff
The Prep Dig Summer League will be kicking off again today for what will be a month full of volleyball of all sorts. With USAV Nationals wrapping up yesterday, high school summer leagues in high gear, camps across the country, and Badger Region High Performance teams starting with their camp this week and tournament in Fort Lauderdale in a couple weeks there is no shortage. Oh, and that’s just the indoor game. Throw in some beach as well as the Waupaca Boatride and the summer is complete. Here are some helpful tidbits heading into the Prep Dig Summer League.
More Teams, More Talent
Starting at 3:30 at the Milwaukee Sting Center, there will be 39 total teams competing in five pools. From the as far North as Manitowoc Lincoln and to the West, Lakeside Lutheran. This year’s field will have six teams that are returning from the state tournament with Oconomowoc, Waukesha West, Lake Country Lutheran, East Troy, Kettle Moraine Lutheran, and Greendale with East Troy being the reigning champions in 2A after defeating KML and Lake Country Lutheran winning in Division 3. Oconomowoc will was the state runner up in Division 1 and will be a heavy favorite in 2019.
What Happened Last Year?
Waukesha West defeated Germantown to claim the Prep Dig Summer League title in 2019. West would go on to the state semifinals in Division 1. West and Germantown will be favorites heading into the league this month with West returning the likes of Alexis Boling, one of the top middle blockers in the state and Germantown will bring back Amber Bischel, an Ole Miss recruit, along with powerful attackers Nikki Censky and Tatum Catalano.
Potentially Different Looks For Each Team
Some teams might have six players on the court that have never played varsity volleyball before, a reloading year. Other teams may have their whole team back and are just looking to build that chemistry. There may also be some wins and losses you could see on AES that might be a little confusing as well. July is hectic (see opening paragraph). The purpose of a summer league isn’t to go undefeated, but to see how athletes respond in different situations. This is also a time where the best thing for an athlete could be a time to rest. Some top recruits may be heading to college camps they have committed to or may potentially commit to. Each weekend presents an opportunity for growth and a chance for teams to learn about what they can see come fall.
Prep Dig will be providing updates on Sunday, July 7 with twitter updates and plenty of photos. Be on the lookout this week for articles following the progress as well as players and teams on the rise. Schedules will be updated at AES
