Brookfield Central and Sussex Hamilton I’m sure will meet at a tournament, as will Appleton North and Kimberly, but when there is a student section, starting lineups, and one main court going on there is a different feel, a tournament feel to this. Here are some matches that will definitely have that late October feel and could potentially be replayed in the sectional or state tournament come early November.
Wednesday, September 4
Brookfield Central @ Sussex Hamilton
These two squads could be playing each other multiple times this year, but this will be on the home floor in a three out of five set match. Hamilton will be a little deeper than BC, but any team with Mckenna Wucherer has will always have a chance to win. This could be a prelude to a potential sectional matchup.
Tuesday, September 17
Stratford @ Newman Catholic
Two state tournament teams from 2018 who will be looking to build off that success. Newman has always had the tradition and Stratford knocked them off in the regular season last year enroute to an undefeated regular season.
Tuesday, September 17
Mosinee @ Northland Pines
Mosinee was able to advance to the state tournament in 2018 and Northland Pines will have quite a squad coming into this season with Northern Michigan commit and All State outside hitter, Jacqueline Smith.
Watertown celebrating in a match from 2018.Thursday, September 19
Edgewood @ Watertown
Watertown will still be filling in some pieces they lost from the 2018, but will still be one of the tops in the conference. Edgewood has some young talent that will be really strong. This matchup will be one for who will take the driver’s seat in the conference.
Tuesday, September 24
University School @ Lake Country Lutheran
The University School will be a top team to compete in the conference along with two time defending state champion, Lake Country Lutheran. LCL will have one of the top backcourts in the state with the likes of Rylee Vaughn and Adriana Studer while The University School will be returning top Sophomore in Abbie Stigler.
Thursday, September 26
Verona @ Sun Prairie
A lot of these athletes are very familiar with each other playing club with Capital Volleyball Academy out of Madison. KJ McNabb (Loyola-Chicago) of Sun Prairie played with Amelia Hust (UW-Oshkosh), Jordan Armstrong (Penn), and Madelyn Kelley all played for Capital 17 Adidas. These two teams will be among the tops in the Madison area and in their sectional.
Tuesday, October 3
Carlee Doering celebrating against Appleton North in 2018.Appleton North @ Kimberly
The past three years the FVA has belonged to Appleton North or Kimberly, same goes for the state tournament with the Papermakers winning the past two sectional finals to advance to the state tournament. This year, the Makers will host the Lightning in a key FVA battle.
Tuesday, October 8
Oconomowoc @ Arrowhead
Big time power from both of these programs with plenty of athletes on both sides of the net playing for Milwaukee Sting. Both of these programs are coming off a state tournament appearance and will be favorites to get back to Green Bay and make some noise in 2019 as well. This will also feature two of the top Seniors in the state in Aubrey Hamilton of Arrowhead who is heading to Notre Dame and Taylor Alden who will be going to Northern Iowa.
Tuesday, October 8
North Branch (MN) vs. River Falls
This is an interesting matchup with River Falls being one of the top programs in Wisconsin and North Branch, who is just across the border in Minnesota being the defending Class AA state champions (equivalent to D2 in Wisconsin). North Branch has one of the top outsides in the state in Cianna Selbitschka who will join River Falls setter, Maddi Kealy at Minnesota-Duluth. Many of these athletes play club for Kokoro or MN Select.
