Continue ReadingThe Sun Prairie Invite is always one of the top tournaments in the state to start the season in Wisconsin. Teams out of the Madison area and beyond will be hitting the hardcourt where top athletes will be looking to make an early statement. Here are some prospects to keep an eye on during the season that will be on the radar of plenty of college coaches throughout the year.
Alayna Westenberg – Watertown
Westenberg got her feet wet last year as a Sophomore in helping Watertown to a big season, with multiple tournament titles and a sectional final. She will be a key part of the success this year in the middle with her ability to hit the shot to the deep corner and also be a major defensive presence as well.
Hannah Derenne – Luxemburg-Casco
Put her on the radar! Derenne is a 6’0 right side who plays high above the net and plays six rotations, providing a big swing out of zone one. She is a mismatch nightmare with the ability to go over the block or hammer down the line. L-C will be a strong team with their depth and athleticism, but having a right side who is a solid first option will be tough for opponents to stop.

Holly Baierl – Luxemburg-Casco
Baierl is so dynamic. The 6’0 Senior is able to run a variety of routes out of the middle and is really solid off of one foot. A high motor with the ability to go from pin to pin as well as a high IQ to make the smart shot and read the other side of the net is a major gamechanger for the Spartans.
Maggie Rohde – Hortonville
Rohde is a similar style to Baierl where she patrols the middle for Hortonville. She can run the middle and put up a big block for the Polar Bears.
Brianna Geurts – De Pere
Geurts has developed her game to be one where she can score points from anywhere in the front row and will be depended upon for De Pere as someone who can score all the way around. With experience playing in the middle and on either pin, Geurts will be able to use a blend of power and finesse to be effective. A key member for FC Elite this past club season, Geurts will be primed for a big season.
Natalie Ring – Edgewood
Natalie RingRing will be one of the more explosive attackers in this tournament. With a ten foot approach touch and plenty of power to go with, Ring is one of the top athletes out of the Class of 2022. With a healthy squad, Edgewood is going to be tough to beat this season.
Caroline Craig – Edgewood
Craig had over 1,000 assists for Edgewood last season and she is back for her Senior season. A leader for this squad, Edgewood is a solid defender as well and will be dishing to a variety of weapons that are underclassmen.
Lauren Borchardt – Manitowoc Lincoln
Extremely explosive, Borchardt is a spark on the outside for the Ships. Manitowoc Lincoln had a breakout summer, losing only one match in the Prep Dig Summer League at the Milwaukee Sting Center. The Ships have big expectations heading into the season and with their strength on the outside they will be in the hunt for some big match victories.
Josie Halbleib – Sun Prairie (Title Photo)
Maggie AllamanExtremely versatile, long, and athletic Halbleib is a 6’2 left-handed setter/right side who can dish to her team or terminate with a swing. The Cardinals are returning a large part of their 2018 state tournament team and Halbleib will be depended upon to do a variety of things for the success of the team. Whether it be setting or scoring points, she can do it all.
Maggie Allaman – Sun Prairie
Allaman came on strong in 2018 as a really solid group of Sophomores for Sun Prairie. A solid blocker and a high IQ shot maker, Allaman will be more of a scoring threat in 2018 for the Cards.
