Without any further delay, here is a look at the players ranked #11 through #25 in the updated Class of 2020 rankings.
#11 – Atley Carey, 6’3, MH, Waverly (committed to South Dakota)
After spending the first three years of her high school career at Lincoln East, Carey is now at Waverly where she will be surrounded by a lot more talent and more likely to flourish. Carey is tall and athletic and has pretty decent power. In time she could be a real force in the Summit League once she gets to South Dakota.
#12 – Izzy Lukens, 5’9, Setter, Millard North (committed to Southeast Missouri State)
After committing early on to Arkansas State, Lukens kind of got a bum deal when the coach left for Houston and she was in limbo for quite a while. She recently settled on Southeast Missouri State has her college destination, and for the past three years there hasn’t been a more accomplished setter at the high school level than Lukens.
#13 – Brooklyn Schram, 6’0, Setter, Papillion-LaVista (committed to South Dakota)
Schram has really good hands, has ideal height and is really good with her set placement. It says quite a bit when you can start since your freshman year at a volleyball factor like Papillion-LaVista. Her quickness/athleticism is still a work in progress but she should have at least one season to really work on that once she gets to South Dakota.
#14 – Molly Plahn, 6’1, MB/RS, Millard North (uncommitted)
There aren’t many players in the state with the combination of height, length and athleticism that Plahn possesses and she should be in line for a much larger role with Millard North this fall. The top uncommitted player in the class, Plahn will have plenty of options if she ultimately decides she for sure wants to play in college.
#15 – Abby Plouzek, 6’3, MH, Waverly (uncommitted)
Plouzek is really intriguing because she has such rare height and length and she has made steady improvements each season in her coordination and footwork. After spending three years at Dorchester, in will be interesting to see how Plouzek’s skill set translates in Class B this fall. Several schools are interested in her, but with the understanding she needs a redshirt year/couple years of development yet.
#16 – Tria McLean, 5’10, Setter, Battle Creek (committed to Ohio)
McLean is much more athletic and possibly even has a higher ceiling than the higher-ranked setters on this list, but McLean is still learning the finer points of setting and is playing a little bit of catch-up in terms of the number of reps and practice to improve on her pure setting skills, but she has the potential to wind-up being top-10 player.
#17 – Lauryn Samuelson, 6’0, MH, Southern Valley (committed to Midland University)
Samuelson’s height is a little deceiving because she plays much higher than most 6-foot middles and she has a really quick and powerful swing. She flew a little bit under the radar by not playing major club volleyball and also because of a knee injury earlier in her career, but she is big-time legit and should be an impact player for Midland shortly after getting on campus.
#18 – Chloe Paschal, 5’9, OH/DS, Papillion-LaVista (committed to Washburn University)
Paschal is such a phenomenal high school outside hitter because she’s crafty with her shot selection and placement and plays under control. Her height doesn’t quite play at the net at the next level though, but she also happens to be a superior back-row player and she will almost certainly make a impact in that area at Washburn.
#19 – Eve Fountain, 5’9, OH/DS, Millard North (uncommitted)
There are a lot of similarities between Fountain and Paschal – which might be why they are ranked right next to each other. Fountain can be a devastating outside hitter at the high school level but would have a hard time translating that to the next level. Fountain is also a superior defender and possesses a powerful swing that would make her a welcome addition in a lot of college back rows.
#20 – Katie Maser, 5’10, Setter, Grand Island Central Catholic (committed to Creighton)
You’re really not going to find a better pure setter in the senior class than Maser, who has such incredible hands and sets a really nice, soft, hittable ball all the time. She’s found a perfect home, in my opinion, at Creighton where she will fit right in with the high-character environment and will push current Creighton freshman setter Ally Van Eekeren.
#21 – Rhianna Wilhelm, 5’10, Setter, Heartland (uncommitted)
Wilhelm is a player I strongly consider a diamond in the rough. She hasn’t necessarily gotten a lot of recognition where she has played, but she possesses superior athletic ability and is a good enough setter of the ball that she can play at the next level. A GPAC school like a Concordia or Hastings might be a good fit for her or potential a Nebraska-Kearney level program where she would have a year or two to develop more.
#22 – Mayah Delgado-Walker, 5’11, RS, Omaha Duchesne (uncommitted)
Pure and simple, Delgado-Walker is a top-10 player in this class in terms of pure talent and ability. She’s been a force for Omaha Duchesne her whole career and has helped lead the Cardinals to new heights in their volleyball program. So, why is she ranked #22? Simple, she has stated she is not interested in playing in college. If she were to change her mind, though, plenty of schools would be happy to have her.
#23 – Kenedy Schaecher, 5’5, Libero, Gretna (committed to Northern Colorado)
One of the best true liberos we have in the state, Schaecher has been a steady back-row player for Gretna for a while now and her excellent lateral quickness and nose for the ball makes her one of the top all-around players as well, as reflected in her ranking. She should see the court fairly early in her college career.
#24 – Payton Kirchhoefer, 6’0, OH, Omaha Marian (committed to Northwest Missouri State)
Kirchhoefer has been a little bit under the radar for Omaha Marian because of the presence of Emily Bressman and Hailey Zuroske the last few years, but the dynamic and athletic outside hitter should play a significant role for the Crusaders this season.
#25 – Ibi Green, 5’9, RS/OH, Elkhorn South (committed to Nebraska-Kearney)
To be honest, generally a 5’9 pin hitter only gets ranked this high if they are exceptional in the back-row and that’s where their future lies in college. That’s not the case for Green. She’s an explosive leaper with a cannon for an arm and really came into her own last year. She’s really going to have to maximize her ability to get playing time in college, but if she does, she could be a real force.
