Elkhorn has had a solid season so far, coming in at 10-7. Winning their last 5 matches, it seems as if the Lady Antlers have found their rhythm and deem to be stiff competition. Elkhorn plays a variety of classmen proving they aren’t going anywhere any time soon. Here’s a few gems we’d like to mention.
Claire Burford, #1, Senior
Claire is the team’s Libero. As one of two seniors, she is a natural leader on the court. She’s steady in the back row and has chalked up an impressive 161 digs averaging 10 digs/match. Her serve receive is reliable, and she has good lateral movement on defense.
Grace Heaney, #3, Freshman
On the other side of the class-spectrum is Grace. This 6’0” lefty can do it all. Grace has a solid front row shot with an impressive 77 kills and a .260 hitting average. With her quick block and multitude of shots, she can play all three positions in the front row. Plus, Grace has a killer short serve and impressive hands that have earned 125 assists so far.
Abby Wolfe, #7, Junior and Addie Thomas, #8, Junior
These two players are listed together because their play is similar. Both effective hitters, these two girls have racked up 99 and 93 kills respectfully. A 6’0” outside, Addie’s line shot is money, and at 5’11”, Abby’s cut shot is lethal. Having these two on the outside never gives the opposing defense a moments rest.
Taylor Bunjer, #9, Sophomore
Taylor can play all three positions across the net, and her .247 hitting average shows her consistency. She’s good at mixing up her shots and looks comfortable hitting from anywhere on the court. Taylor has a hard, reliable serve that even the best passers can struggle with.
Abbie Nadgwick, #10, Junior
Abbie brings smart, clean setting and powerful serves to the team. Logging 183 assists so far, Abbie mixes up her sets causing the blockers to be late and her hitters to be more successful. At 5’11”, Abbie isn’t afraid to get in there and set tight passes, and her form is graceful.
