BEATRICE – The top three seeds in the MUDECAS A Division volleyball tournament all advanced to tonight’s semifinals in matches played Monday night at Southeast Community College in Beatrice.
Top-seeded Diller-Odell cruised to a 25-9, 25-15 win over Exeter-Milligan while fifth-seeded Meridian scored a 25-22, 25-15 over Johnson-Brock. Diller-Odell and Meridian will meet at 7 p.m. this evening.
The other semifinal – at 8:15 p.m. tonight – will feature second-seeded BDS against third-seeded HTRS. BDS advanced to the semifinals with a 25-14, 25-21 win over Falls City Sacred Heart while HTRS won 25-15, 16-25, 25-12 over Freeman.
Halle Pribyl had nine kills, two ace serves and 10 digs for Meridian in its win over Johnson-Brock while Jadyn Hahn led the Eagles with 11 kills.
Karli Heideman and Mackenzie Vitosh each had seven kills for Diller-Odell in its sweep of Exeter-Milligan. Addison Heideman had 16 assists, six digs and three ace serves as well for the Griffins. Jaiden Papik led Exeter-Milligan with three kills and Emma Olsen had three blocks.
In the quarterfinal between Freeman and HTRS, after the teams split the first two sets, HTRS jumped out to an early lead and was able to increase it to a pretty large margin before the Falcons rallied to get to 18-11 after a kill from Natalie Boyer and an ace serve from Brooklyn Ideus. HTRS, however, would finish the set on a 6-1 run behind two kills and a block from Lauren Nanninga to get the win.
BDS used a balanced attack to down Sacred Heart. Macey Kamler had eight kills for BDS and Mariah Silva added seven and Regan Alfs finished with two kills and 11 assists. For Sacred Heart, McKenzie Witt and Erison Vonderschmidt each had three kills.
