Here is a quick look at each class followed by links to each of the rankings.
In Class A, both top-ranked Papillion-LaVista and #2 Elkhorn South each passed the “eye test” and the “court test” last week/weekend. Papillion-LaVista wasn’t sharp in every set while winning the Bellevue West Invitational but the Monarchs’ superior depth and one-two punch of Norah Sis and Chloe Paschal on the outside are going to be very, very difficult to bring down. Elkhorn South was shaky at times in its sweep of Elkhorn, but the Storm has the block and power to really battle the Monarchs for the top spot.
Gretna jumps way up into the standing after not being ranked to start the year, thanks to its 3-1 win over Millard North on opening night. The Dragons loss to Lincoln Pius X kept them from going higher and put Pius X at #4, behind #3 Millard West, which cruised to an easy win on opening night.
In Class B, Norris and Omaha Duchesne flip-flop spots with the Titans now being #3 and Duchesne going to #4. I still have Waverly at the top spot. Will that still be the case when Lindsay Krause comes back? Maybe …. we’ll just have to see how things look at that time.
Normally if a #1 team loses, the top ranking goes with it but I’m not prepared to punish Class C1 #1 Wahoo for a 27-25, 27-25 loss to Class B #3 Norris. The Warriors stay at the top spot but St. Paul is right behind them at #2. Lincoln Lutheran also isn’t punished for its loss to Class B #1 Waverly and stays at #3.
Huge match Thursday in Class C2 Hastings as #1 Grand Island Central Catholic travels to #2 Hastings St. Cecilia. Diller-Odell hasn’t played yet and remains #1 in Class D1 and Wynot and BDS are still undefeated and still ranked #1 and #2, respectively, in Class D2.
Here are the links to each of the rankings.
