The Seniors are ones who have been through the bumps along the road, been in situations as Freshmen or Sophomores where the game felt like it was going warp speed where now its as if the game has slowed down and they are in complete control. Here are some of the Senior setters who are slayin the season!
Tayler Alden – Oconomowoc
Committed to Northern Iowa
Alden has eclipsed 4,000 assists. Those numbers are mind-boggling, but with Alden it comes at no surprise who has been on the varsity court since the start of her Freshman year. She’s gritty, she has a fire, and if she’s not setting, she can attack to the deep corner with a big left-handed swing. Her presence puts so much pressure on the other side of the net from the backrow defenders to the block it really opens up options for her team as they continue to hold the number one ranking in D1.
Kaley Blake – Burlington
Committed to UW-Milwaukee
Cold Blooded! Kaley Blake is 8-1 in her career at the state tournament. Watching Blake over the past few years, she always remains cool, calm, and collected, but has this intensity where you want to be sure and have her on your side of the net. As far as technique, she is so neutral with where she receives the ball that blockers are guessing where she is setting the ball as well as her tempo. Blake is going to fit perfectly into the UW-Milwaukee 6-2 system where she can feed their strong and physical right sides and run a quick tempo to the middles and outsides.
Karlee Lois – Union Grove
Committed to Wheeling Jesuit
Lois is one of the main leaders for Union Grove who have found themselves in the top ten with a 26-3 record and most recently finished 3rd at the West Bend Sprawl. On point with her placement and once again an left-handed attacker, Lois brings her beach came to the hardcourt with her creative ability to find the open spot, once again putting a lot of pressure on the defense. Lois is nearing 2,500 career assists and will go onto compete at one of the top Division 2 programs in the country in Wheeling Jesuit in West Virgina.
Jordan Armstrong – Verona
Committed To Penn
At 28-4 this season, Verona is on a mission to do some things that haven’t been done in their program for a bit with their eye on a conference title and a state tournament appearance. Their Senior class has been leading the way, and Jordan Armstrong is running the show. The Penn recruit has over 1,500 assists in her career with this year being her best by far. Verona has lost once since the beginning of September and will be looking to build momentum into the sectional tournament with the likes of Sun Prairie and Verona.
Kalli Mau – Kimberly
Kalli Mau of KimberlyCommitted to Bellarmine
Mau has just quietly made her way up the ranks as one of the top setters at Kimberly, setting in two state tournaments and just recently broke the 2,000 assists career number with 2,045. Long, athletic, and can run the middles – Kimberly has been a program loaded with athletes who have gone on to have successful careers after high school. Mau will be heading to Louisville to play at Bellarmine, an NCAA D2 school that will be transitioning to NCAA D1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Izzy Schauer – Watertown
Committed to Belmont
Schauer is just a gamer, she’s gritty, and she finds a way to win. Seeing Schauer her 16s year play for Sting 16 White, she just showed an x-factor that is hard to find in setters. She can play really solid defense, she puts up a clean ball and she just has a knack for finding ways to score points herself. Watertown is once again having a strong season in the top ten of Division 1 and that is large in part to Schauer who is finding ways to get her teammates to score. She will head to the Ohio Valley Conference and play for Belmont in Nashville.
Lizzy Fortune – McFarland
McFarland just knocked off East Troy in conference play which as been their nemesis in the regular season and postseason. Fortune has 1,800 assists with the opportunity to break 2,000 this season. McFarland is currently standing at 21-3 and will be a really rigorous sectional, but no matter what the result, it won’t take away what Fortune has done for the McFarland program as a setter and leader.
Nicole Pozorski of MukwonagoMaddi Kealy – River Falls
Committed to Minnesota-Duluth
Kealy has definitely had to deal with some adversity in her career with having to watch the state tournament last year from the sidelines in a boot having a foot injury, healed to get back to playing basketball and club to then find herself back in a boot with a stress fracture to start the season. The boot came off, Kealy came back on the court and River Falls went on to finish second at the Charger Challenge behind Kealy being the key cog for the Wildcats who have only one loss to teams from Wisconsin.
Nicole Pozorski – Mukwonago
Committed to Upper Iowa
Crafty, scrappy, and another setter that puts a lot of stress on the defense with her ability to find the open spot whether it be on the other side of the net or to one of her attackers. She has made quite the combination with Erin Powers, the libero going to UAB that has been playing on the outside. Mukwonago has had some big wins and narrow losses and will be a scary team heading into the postseason.
