Addie VanderWeideJordyn Gates, Grand Rapids Christian Sr. S – Gates showed why she was a Miss Volleyball finalist, leading the Eagles to a second straight title while GRC hit .378 in the semifinal and .357 in the championship. Gates combined for 67 assists, 28 digs, 10 kills and three aces over her six sets in Kellogg Arena.
Addie VanderWeide, Grand Rapids Christian Jr. OH – VanderWeide led the GRC attackers this past weekend. After putting down 19 kills in the semifinal win over Kingsley, she followed that up with 28 kills in the final while hitting .436. She also combined for 18 digs over the two matches.
Lauren Peal, Grand Rapids Christian Jr. L – While the Eagles will get deserved attention for their offense, their defense was pretty stellar this weekend as well. Peal had 19 digs over the two matches, but also had five aces from the serving line.
Ayva Kooistra, Grand Rapids Christian Sr. MB – Kooistra didn’t get her number called a ton, but when she did, she finished. In the semifinal, the senior had seven kills on 10 attacks, hitting .600. In the final against Lakewood, Kooistra finished all six of her attacks for a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage. Kooistra was also impactful with the block, tallying five assisted blocks and one solo block in Battle Creek.
Aubrey O’GormanAubrey O’Gorman, Lakewood Jr. MB – O’Gorman led the Vikings in kills in both matchups at Kellogg Arena. She had 28 kills while hitting .511 against Notre Dame Prep in the semifinal. She then had 11 kills in the final with GRC. O’Gorman also added 17 digs and five assists blocks throughout the weekend.
Maradith O’Gorman, Lakewood Soph. RS – Aubrey’s sister had a strong showing in Battle Creek as well, putting down 20 kills, 11 digs and three aces against the Irish in the semifinal. She then had 10 kills and 10 digs in the final with the Eagles.
Kiana Hummel, Lakewood Sr. L – Hummel had to be active to keep Lakewood going in the semifinal and she had 18 digs while making just one serve receive error. Her passing allowed the Vikings to get the ball to the O’Gorman sisters and get past ND Prep. She followed that up with 10 digs in the final and had six assists over the two matches as well.
Aly BorellisAly Borellis, Notre Dame Prep Soph. RS/S – Borellis did it all for the Irish in their semifinal against Lakewood. She had a team-high 20 kills while adding 18 assists and eight digs. Borellis’ versatility and all-around ability make her one of the top sophomores in the state.
Livy Kowalkowski, Notre Dame Prep Jr. L – One of the more veteran players on a young Irish team was busy against Lakewood, trying to fend off the O’Gorman sisters. She did her part, putting up a team-high 20 digs. She also had one of the team’s three aces.
Brittany Bowman, Kingsley Sr. OH – Bowman played big for her 5’4” stature. She had to go up against a wall in GRC, but still put down a team-high 12 kills while adding a team-high 14 digs in the semifinal with the Eagles.
