Mikayla HautMikayla Haut, SMCC Jr. OH – Haut proved that she’s one of the best talents in the state this past weekend by leading SMCC to the D3 title. In the semifinal with Beaverton, Haut had 24 kills and 20 digs while hitting .455. She also added three aces. In the championship match, Haut had 27 kills with 24 digs and an ace.
Payton Osborne, SMCC Sr. L – Osborne had a great libero duel in the state final match with Schoolcraft. She did her part to keep a lot of points alive and finished the match with 24 digs and just one receiving error over five sets. In the semifinal, Osborne had 18 digs and no receiving errors against Beaverton.
Abbie Costlow, SMCC Jr. RS/OH – Costlow was the consistent compliment to Haut at the net this weekend at Kellogg Arena. She put up nine kills in each of the two SMCC matches. She also added three assisted blocks and an ace in each match.
Sarah Reicker, SMCC Sr. S – Reicker is one of two setters SMCC uses, but she was able to lead the Kestrels in assists over the weekend, while also adding to the defense. In the semifinal, Reicker had 27 of the team’s 44 assists and tallied six digs. In the final, Reicker had 24 assists and five digs.
Anna SchuppelAndelyn Simkins, Schoolcraft Sr. OH – Simkins got her chance to play on the big stage this weekend and she didn’t disappoint. She had 13 kills, eight digs and two aces in the semifinal win over Valley Lutheran and came back with 28 kills, 23 digs and three assists in the finals match against SMCC.
Anna Schuppel, Schoolcraft Jr. MH – Schuppel wasn’t needed too much in the semifinal, as she tallied six kills with one solo block. However, in the final Schuppel had some big moments against SMCC. She finished second on the team with 13 kills and hit .385 while also adding one solo block. Schuppel is someone that should be a big factor for the Eagles in 2020.
Kelby Goldschmeding, Schoolcraft Jr. L – Schoolcraft has had a strong defense all season and that showed in Battle Creek. Goldschmeding had to leave it all on the floor in the final, which she did. She tallied 21 digs against SMCC and had nine in the sweep of Valley Lutheran. Over the weekend, she committed just one receiving error. Goldschmeding also had three aces in the two matches.
Mady PahlKayla Onken, Schoolcraft Jr. S – Onken kept the Schoolcraft attack running throughout the weekend. In the semifinal, the Eagles hit .342 as a team behind 28 assists from Onken. In the final, she put up 53 assists, which was the fourth most in MHSAA finals history. She also added 23 digs and five aces over the two contests.
Maddy Pahl, Beaverton Jr. S – Pahl did a little bit of everything for the Beavers in their semifinal with SMCC. She led the team in assists and digs with 15 of each and then tied for the team lead in kills with six, while hitting a team-best .238.
Kelsey Vittitow, Valley Lutheran Sr. L – Vittitow had a tough task to go up against a red-hot Schoolcraft attack in the semifinal, but she did what she could for the Chargers. Making just one receiving error in the match, Vittitow had 13 digs in the loss to lead the Valley Lutheran defense that earned a lot of respect.
