What would their role be with their team? How would they mix in with upperclassmen? Again, plenty of questions for these athletes were answered with an exclamation point. The impact of these Freshmen went far beyond their statistics. Part 2
Kyla Dunaway – Kimberly
Dunaway has the makings to be a multisport standout from Kimberly High School where she saw significant time as a Freshman for the Papermakers where she recorded nearly 100 total blocks. At 6’2 and very athletic, Dunaway has already received offers to play basketball at some of the top basketball programs in Wisconsin. She will be a force on the court this winter for the Kimberly basketball team as well as FC Elite 15 Navy.
Karissa Fortune – Appleton North (Title Photo)
Fortune and Dunaway will be teammates during the club season for FC Elite 15 Navy. This past fall, Fortune was a starting outside for Appleton North, crowned FVA Champions and made an appearance at the Division 1 state tournament. Long, athletic, and an incredibly high ceiling, the 6’1 Freshman is consistent, efficient, and knows how to play in a high-intensity environment.

Grace Grocholski – Kettle Moraine
Strong, athletic, and a big game player, Grocholski broke on to the scene early as Kettle Moraine made history advancing to the state tournament this season. A go-to outside hitter who could score in any rotation, Grocholski had 371 total kills, good for nearly four kills per set. She also tallied over 300 digs as well. This winter Grocholski will take the basketball hardwood, but will also play for Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold as well.
Alexis Kammerer – Brodhead
Cordelia KearnsKammerer joins her teammate Abbie Dix on the team after playing a huge part in Brodhead collecting over 30 wins this season. A Freshman setter running the show is rare, but Kammerer played like a veteran in collecting nearly 800 assists, good for nearly nine per set. Brodhead was defeated by River Ridge in sectional play and will be a major threat next year in Division 3.
Cordelia Kearns – Oconomowoc
Nothing like making a state tournament debut by leading your team in kills over a conference rival while winning the match 3-2. Kearns did just that for Oconomowoc from the right side with 12 kills in her state tournament opener. What sets Kearns apart is her fearlessness when it comes to attacking. She knows how to use the blocker’s hands and can really rip down the line. She will be a key piece to the Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold squad this season.
