What would their role be with their team? How would they mix in with upperclassmen? Again, plenty of questions for these athletes were answered with an exclamation point. The impact of these Freshmen went far beyond their statistics. It was their impact that they had while some took home state titles, conference championships, state tournament appearances, and were more than just a spot on the floor – they were a major impact. Part 3
Jordan LaScala – Middleton
LaScala burst onto the scene as one of the top Freshman attackers in the state with over 350 kills on the season for Middleton who finished 26-21. Her attack wasn’t the only way she impacted her team where she also had 217 digs and 43 aces. With her performance this season, LaScala received 1st Team All Big 8 honors with the top big-school athletes out of the Madison area.
Sydney Ludvigsen – Union Grove
Being a key contributor to a Division 1 state qualifying team doesn’t happen by chance. Union Grove had a historic season and Ludvigsen was the extra boost of youth for the Broncos who had a very Senior led, experienced group. Ludvigsen held down the right side, averaging nearly 1.5 kills per set for a UG team that had 41 wins. She also tacked on 150 plus kills on the year.
Paige Miller – Kaukauna
Paige MillerExtremely athletic, dynamic, and has the ability to play multiple positions as a Freshman. The way Miller moves across the court makes playing volleyball look easy. She spent time as a libero, but then was needed to swing on the pin as well. Miller had nearly 400 digs on the season and is extremely solid in serve receive.
Anika Torgerson – Turtle Lake
Turtle Lake is in Northwest Wisconsin, Northwest of Eau Claire. Torgerson is a hidden gem who quietly had a really successful season making a splash right away at the Menomonie Sprawl. The 6’1 Freshman averaged nearly two kills per set, tallied just under 400 assists and had over 150 digs on the season.
Lily Wagner – Germantown
Wagner caught our eye early in the summer when she played in the Prep Dig Summer League at Milwaukee Sting. A big jumper (look at the title photo) and a really high IQ for the game, Wagner found a way to make a big impact for the Warhawks. She was second on team with a strong core of upperclassmen with over 200 kills. A six rotation player who can serve receive and attack from anywhere on the court, Wagner will be one to keep tabs on for Sting 15 Gold this upcoming club season.
