Katie Howard/Allen Whittinghill (Greenwood): Howard and Whittinghill each excelled as Greenwood captured the 4th Region title and won an opening round match in the 2019 KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament.
The productive Howard ended her junior season with 488 kills, 52 blocks, 243 digs, 55 aces and 15 aces. She was named the KVCA 4th Region Player of the Year.
An accomplished head coach who boasts several championship-clinching victories, Whittinghill guided Greenwood to 14th District and 4th Region titles. He was named the KVCA 4th Region Coach of the Year.
Olivia Mitchell/Daniel Cortner (Caldwell County): Under the direction of Cortner and with Mitchell leading the way on the court, Caldwell County claimed the 7th District title and reached the 2nd Region Semifinals.
During her junior season, Mitchell (OH/MH/DS) registered 625 kills, 254 digs and 53 aces. She was named the KVCA 2nd Region Player of the Year.
Cortner-coached Caldwell County nearly knocked off eventual champion Henderson County in the semifinals of the 2nd Region Volleyball Tournament. Determined Henderson County managed to edge Caldwell County 3-2 (17-25, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 15-8). Cortner was named the KVCA 2nd Region Coach of the Year.
Lucy Trump/Tasha Lovins (Ryle): Despite finishing as the 33rd District runner-up behind Cooper and falling to eventual champion Notre Dame in the opening round of the 9th Region Volleyball Tournament, Ryle featured the region’s top player and coach.
Trump, a stellar sophomore outside hitter who has committed to the University of Notre Dame, was named the KVCA 9th Region Player of the Year. During her sophomore season, Trump landed 435 kills, in addition to 24 blocks, 210 digs and 33 aces.
Lovins, who compiled a 21-16 record, was named the KVCA 9th Region Coach of the Year.
