Meredith Brown: A freshman, Brown is one of the state’s top young volleyball players. A 6-4 middle blocker, Brown is expected to push to make an impact for perennial state championship contender Mercy Academy in the 2020 high school season. Brown provides a strong presence at the net and continues to progress as she develops as a volleyball player. There’s a promising club season ahead for the Mercy Academy student-athlete. Mercy ended its latest campaign as the state runner-up.
Madi Hartman: Among the players who will be instrumental in 8th Region champion North Oldham High School’s future, Hartman has enjoyed success early in her high school career. A 5-8 defensive specialist, Hartman is pushing to be one of the top players in her class. As a freshman, Hartman recorded 191 digs, 27 assists and 26 aces for North Oldham during the 2019 high school season. Hartman helped to lead North Oldham to the semifinals of the 2019 KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament. After falling to eventual state champion Assumption, North Oldham concluded the 2019 high school season 28-9.
Katie Poynter: Poynter joins Brown from state powerhouse Mercy Academy. She is a productive 5-8 outside hitter who is another top young player in the talent-heavy Mercy Academy volleyball program. Like Brown, Poynter will be pushing for varsity time on the court in her high school career sooner than later.
Vivian RoBards: Competing for another tradition-rich high school program, RoBards is a freshman middle blocker/opposite hitter. RoBards (5-10) hails from Sacred Heart Academy, a program which boasts numerous championships. RoBards has displayed versatility throughout her career and possesses the ability to play multiple positions.
Megan Sweeney: Another player from Louisville, Sweeney is a versatile performer who has also made an impact in the high school ranks. A freshman from Eminence High School, Sweeney (5-8) is capable of contributing as a defensive specialist or setter. As a freshman for her prep team, in 20 games, Sweeney recorded 70 kills, 14 blocks, 101 assists, 12 digs and 38 aces. Following the current club season, Sweeney will have an opportunity to be among the top contributors for her prep squad. Eminence, which competes with North Oldham in the 8th Region, ended the 2019 high school season 15-12. The Warriors finished runner-up to Henry County in the 31st District. North Oldham defeated Eminence in the opening round of the 2019 8th Region Volleyball Tournament, eliminating the Warriors from the postseason.
