The national championship tournament will be held May 1-3 at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center.
The GJNC18 is expected to draw approximately 300 teams, nearly 3,000 players and over 5,000 family and friends of the players from across the country. The event will crown champions in five age divisions: Open, National, USA, American and Patriot Divisions.
The GJNC18 is the first of two signature USA Volleyball events Reno Tahoe will host in 2020. The Reno-Sparks Convention Center was also selected to host the 2020 USA Volleyball Boys Junior National Championships June 27-July 4.
Reno Tahoe has also served as host for the 2010 Girls Junior National Championships, the 2013 Boys Junior National Championships and the Open National Championships in 1975 and 1992. The region has also been a destination for international matches as the U.S. Men’s National Team hosted a weekend of the 2013 FIVB World League in Reno along with the 2015 Pan American Cup.
The Union Volleyball Club squad earned the bid to the national event after placing second in the Music City National Qualifier in Nashville on Sunday, Jan. 19.
Union 18 Asics features some of Kentucky’s top players. Several of the best players from neighboring Indiana also compete for the Union 18 Asics team.
The squad features many college commits. A breakdown of the Union 18 Asics roster follows.
Macie Garrison is a 5-9 senior setter from Silver Creek High School in Indiana. Garrison has committed to Jacksonville State University.
Courtney Glotzbach is a 5-10 senior outside hitter/opposite hitter from Providence High School in Indiana. Glotzbach has committed to Jacksonville State University as well.
Isabella Hinton is a 5-9 junior opposite hitter from Silver Creek High School. Hinton has not committed.
Allison Holloway is a six-foot junior middle blocker from Mercy Academy. Holloway has not committed.
Ali Hornung is a 5-9 junior outside hitter from Providence High School. Planning to remain close to home as she competes at the next level, Hornung has committed to Purdue University.
Anna Lococo is a 5-5 senior libero from Sacred Heart Academy. Choosing to stay home as she competes at the next level, Lococo has committed to Bellarmine University.
Anna Purichia is a 5-10 junior outside hitter from Providence High School. Purichia has not committed.
Cecilia Rush is a 5-9 senior defensive specialist from Providence High School. Rush has committed to the University of Louisville, not too far from her native Indiana.
Madison Sweeney is a six-foot senior middle blocker from Eminence High School. Sweeney has not committed.
