Here are 10 Louisville 15s to watch.
Meredith Brown: One of the state’s top young volleyball players, Brown is a 6-4 middle blocker. Brown is expected to push to make an impact for perennial state championship contender Mercy Academy in the 2020 high school season. Currently competing for Union 15-1 in the 2020 club season, Brown provides a strong presence at the net and continues to progress as she develops as a volleyball player. There’s a promising club season ahead for the Mercy Academy student-athlete. Mercy ended its latest campaign as the state runner-up.
Nya Bunton: One of the state’s top young players, Bunton contributed for her team during the 2019 high school season. Bunton is a 6-4 middle hitter from DuPont Manual High School. She helped DuPont Manual capture the 25th District title and reach the semifinals of the 7th Region Tournament during the 2019 high school season. Bunton is currently competing for KIVA 15 Red.
Gabrielle Gerry: The tallest player on the KIVA 15 Red roster, Gerry is out of the state high school powerhouse Assumption program. Gerry is a 6-5 freshman middle hitter who will gain valuable experience during the 2020 club season.
Madi Hartman: Among the players who will be instrumental in 8th Region champion North Oldham High School’s future, Hartman has enjoyed success early in her high school career. A 5-8 defensive specialist, Hartman is pushing to be one of the top players in her class. As a freshman, Hartman recorded 191 digs, 27 assists and 26 aces for North Oldham during the 2019 high school season. Hartman helped to lead North Oldham to the semifinals of the 2019 KHSAA Volleyball State Tournament. Hartman is currently competing for Union 15-1.
Sydney Helmers: One of the most experienced players on the KIVA 15 Red roster, Helmers delivered for Assumption throughout its latest state championship-winning campaign. Helmers, a productive 6-2 freshman outside hitter, logged 93 kills in her first 49 sets for the Rockets during the 2019 high school season.
Katie Poynter: Poynter joins Brown from state powerhouse Mercy Academy. She is a productive 5-8 outside hitter who is another top young player in the talent-heavy Mercy Academy volleyball program. Like Brown, Poynter will be pushing for varsity time on the court in her high school career sooner than later. Currently, Poynter is competing for Union 15-1.
Vivian RoBards: Competing for another tradition-rich high school program, RoBards is a freshman middle blocker/opposite hitter. RoBards (5-10) hails from Sacred Heart Academy, a program which boasts numerous championships. RoBards has displayed versatility throughout her career and possesses the ability to play multiple positions. She is currently competing for Union 15-1.
Alexis Strong: Among the most underrated young volleyball players in Louisville, Strong is expected to be a key performer for her club team. Strong is a 6-1 outside hitter/opposite hitter from Assumption High School. She is currently competing for KIVA 15 Red.
Emily Surbaugh: One of the most versatile players for KIVA 15 Red, Surbaugh is able to play multiple positions. Surbaugh is a 5-9 sophomore setter/defensive specialist from Male High School. During her sophomore campaign, Surbaugh helped Male to runner-up finishes behind Assumption in both the 26th District and 7th Region. Surbaugh is currently competing for KIVA 15 Red.
Megan Sweeney: Sweeney is a versatile performer who has also made an impact in the high school ranks. A freshman from Eminence High School, Sweeney (5-8) is capable of contributing as a defensive specialist or setter. As a freshman for her prep team, in 20 games, Sweeney recorded 70 kills, 14 blocks, 101 assists, 12 digs and 38 aces. Sweeney is currently competing for Union 15-1. Following the current club season, Sweeney will have an opportunity to be among the top contributors for her prep squad.
