With the number of clubs, and subsequently, numbers of players available, it is easy to miss a few diamonds that may have been overlooked considering who has already committed from that particular club team. Listed below are Prep Dig’s Top 5 Uncommitted 2021s:
Jenny Morey Jenny Morey 5'7" | DS/L Yorktown | 2021 State IN , defensive specialist, Munciana Samurai (18-1), Yorktown High School
Jada Allen Jada Allen 6'1" | OH Fishers | 2021 State IN , outside hitter/middle hitter, Munciana Samurai (18-1), Fishers High School
If you’re going to start a list, you need to look no further than the (very few) uncommitted from the top program in the state, the Munciana Samurai. Jenny is in the gym with the best trainer, Mike Lingenfelter, getting the best practice reps, alongside teammates who have already committed to Wisconsin, UNC, Indiana, Dayton and Alabama, just to name a few. She also comes from one of the top high school programs in the state, winning it all in 2018 and finishing top 25 nationally every year since 2017. Jada is a sleeper athlete that comes from a top-10 high school program in Fishers. Her sectional includes four of the top ten teams in the state of Indiana, and has a heavy arm with a quick twitch that can’t be overlooked.
Taylor Lauri Taylor Lauri 5'8" | DS/L Hamilton Southeastern | 2021 State IN , defensive specialist, Circle City 18 Purple (18-1), Hamilton Southeastern High School
As the only junior on a senior-laden squad, she’s currently a three-rotation DS that has seen some time as Libero for Chris Due’s squad. She’s surrounded in the gym by kids who have already committed to Missouri, Akron, UT Martin, Winthrop and Indiana State. Additionally, Taylor also plays in the same sectional as Miss Allen listed above, albeit at Fishers’ rival, HSE.
Sarah Casper Sarah Casper 5'11" | OH Cathedral | 2021 State IN , outside hitter, Academy 17 Tsunami (17-1), Cathedral High School
When the 6-1 middle on one side of you is already committed to Purdue ( Raven Colvin Raven Colvin 6'0" | MB Heritage Christian | 2021 State IN ) and the 6-3 right side on the other side is already committed to Butler ( Grace Boggess Grace Boggess 6'3" | MB Center Grove | 2021 State IN ), you will be overlooked. In Sarah’s case, not for long. Her club coach, Corky Robertson, expects all of his players to be able to play multiple positions, and Sarah has played all three front row spots, and even got a little bit of a breather at the JVA tourney in Indy this past weekend as a three-rotation DS from time to time. When the starters play, she is a 6-rotation OH that can hit from anywhere, and her 5-11 frame, along with her quick arm, complement her defensive and serve receive abilities nicely.
Caitlin Murphy Caitlin Murphy 5'7" | S Brownsburg | 2021 State IN , setter, Team Indiana 18 Elite (18-1), Brownsburg High School
Speaking of overlooked, this unassuming, 5-7 setter from the western suburbs of Indianapolis should not be taken lightly. She’s already started and played against the best competition that both JVA and USAV have thrown at her, including the Triple Crown tournament in Kansas City. Although TI’s 18 Elite aren’t in the mix for top 18s teams in the state, Caitlin immediately makes this team better with her quickness, set location, and her consistent ability to turn a bad pass into a better set. Keep an eye on this one; she won’t be uncommitted for long.
