Serving Barrie, Ontario and Simcoe Counties, the Barrie Elites Volleyball Club currently sports 13 girls’ teams ranging from 12 to 18 years of age.
Considering the organization also claims nine boy’s squads from ages 13-18, the action might just feel like it never stops for those in the know. In the midst of all this excitement and adventure are the Barrie Elites 15U Blasters Girl’s Black team, which was on the court as recently as last week in Macomb County for the two-day Great Lakes Festival at the Blue Water Sports Complex March 7-8.
During that event this squad was fortunate enough to have a handful of players that really stood up and represented both their squads and themselves quite well, such as…
EMILIA EDWARDS
Even though it’s the middle of the court where number 15 plies her trade with the greatest regularity, she has a good eye for ball placement regardless of where that takes her. Edwards can hold her own just as strong in the backcourt as she does the frontcourt, as well.
RYLEIGH McDADE
Working from the left side, McDade’s setting ability follows her wherever the action is at. Number 13 is also direct and effective from the serving line, but appears most impressive the closer she plays to the net.
BRIANNA BEAMISH
With a nice offensive touch at the net and exceptional passing abilities, number 19 excels in the frontcourt. While it’s true she finds the left side to be the best side, the more time Beamish puts in the brighter her future has the potential to be.
AJA DeLUNA
Not every teenage athlete can rise to the occasion and step her game up when her team needs it the most, but when this squad is down it’s DeLuna that can get things back to right. Be it in the frontcourt or the middle, number 11’s height is a tool that pays dividends in both directions, especially on defense.
CHLOE TREMBLAY
Tall with long arms, the secret to Tremblay’s success revolves around following the coaches gameplan and playing on the same page as those around her, meaning she both takes and follows direction well. She’s also on the court during her team’s worst of times, so the confidence those at the top of this organization see and feel in what she brings to the effort must be overwhelmingly healthy.
HAILEY DOIRON
As a Setter, Doiron exhibits an incredible work ethic that includes paying attention from start to finish each and every time out. Another point of contention for this athlete as far as the opposition is concerned is how well she works from the backcourt, an ability she accentuates to the fullest through the way she receives even the least hospitable of serves.
The rest of the roster for the Barrie Elite Blasters 15U Girls Black and Head Coach Paul Doiron includes Kennedy Graham (#7), Ava Dubois-Wood (#8), Isabelle Morneau (#9) and Jordyn Kristiansen (#12) according to Vice President Lisa White.
