Chloe Chicoine Chloe Chicoine 5'9" | OH McCutcheon | 2023 State #1 Nation IN , 5-9, OH/DS, Circle City 16 Purple (16-1), McCutcheon High School
An absolute spitfire, this kid can do just about anything one can do on the volleyball court. It’s my pick for tops in this class from Indiana, and she’s been playing up a year in club ever since she hopped on the scene. Her jump touch is currently measured at 9-10, and should easily pass the Mendoza Line of ten feet by the beginning of August, her junior high school season. A whip of an arm has her potent from the front and the back, and most will overlook her due to her size. WARNING: do not overlook this player.
Grace Purichia Grace Purichia 5'7" | S Providence | 2023 State #149 Nation IN , 5-7, S, Union 15 Asics (15-1), Providence High School
Again, another undersized player from the Hoosier State that should not be overlooked. She makes this team markedly better and comes from a volleyball family. Set location is spot on, and easily becomes my top setter for this class in Indiana. She’s also won multiple tournaments over the years in club as well as multiple state championships in high school.
Quinci Thomas Quinci Thomas 6'3" | OH Brownsburg | 2023 State #138 Nation IN , 6-3, OH, Circle City 15 Purple (15-1), Brownsburg High School
If size is what you need on a pin, look no further than Quinci in the ’23 class. She’s a late player, meaning that she’s only recently started playing club ball. Her ceiling is limitless, literally and figuratively, as she’s jump-touching close to ten feet already. In watching her at multiple tournaments recently, including winning the 15 Open division of the President’s Day in Saint Louis, she was continually going over any block in front of her. She can only get better, as I can’t imagine what she’ll be like with three more years of training before graduation.
Elle Patterson Elle Patterson 6'0" | OH Tri-West | 2023 State IN , 6-0, MB, Boiler Juniors 16 Gold (16-1), Tri-West High School
This diamond in the rough turned heads at the recent JVA Jamboree in Indianapolis earlier this month, which did not go unnoticed. She is explosive offensively, her lateral movement is quick enough to cover both pins, and does well in multiple set tempos. Do not be surprised if this kid gets attention early; playing for a smaller-than-average club and high school has hidden this talent, but not for much longer.
Cadence Ast Cadence Ast 6'2" | MB Bloomington South | 2023 State IN , 6-2, MB, Circle City 15 Purple (15-1), Bloomington South High School
Constant, consistent production from this M2 is what you get. Betters every ball, blocks every tempo and location along the net, and has enough size to get the job done. This is not a flashy, jump-out-of-the-gym player; but this class does not have a more consistent middle in Central Indiana, and I can’t imagine this kid being without a commitment for much longer.
