Quinci Thomas Quinci Thomas 6'3" | OH Brownsburg | 2023 State #138 Nation IN , 6-3, OH, Circle City 15 Purple (15-1), Brownsburg High School
Quincy is a late starter to the sport of volleyball, but you wouldn’t know that from the way she can dominate her competition. In this author’s view of her, There hasn’t been a block in the midwest at any time this spring that has been able to contain her. Her jump touch is almost ten feet, and she’s only a freshman. Once she figures out how to play floor defense and possibly add serve receive to her repertoire, watch out.
Emily Waddell Emily Waddell 6'0" | MB Carmel | 2023 State #137 Nation IN , 6-0, MB, Circle City 15 Purple (15-1), Carmel High School
Next to Quinci, Emily looks tiny. Miss Waddell certainly doesn’t play tiny, as her offensive capabilities are just as good as her ability to block anyone and everyone from all attack points. Her fast-twitch gets her up, and her volleyball smarts do the rest. This is a kid on the rise, and could even project out as a right side, since her block is so consistent.
Gabby Dean Gabby Dean 6'5" | MB Columbus East | 2023 State #53 Nation IN , 6-4, MB, Team Indiana Elite 16 (16-1), Columbus East High School
Gabby, the first of two kids play up one year, is already receiving serious consideration from multiple teams from the Big Ten, the ACC and the SEC. This hasn’t stopped her progression, however, and has more than held her own at this level. Her attack level is obviously over anyone trying to block her, but it’s her blocking that caught this author’s eye—her blocks are terminal. Not soft block to the deep corner, but TO THE FLOOR. This is a skill you usually don’t see in a senior in high school, let alone a 14-year-old among 16-year-olds. Real deal alert right here. It is my prediction that Gabby will be the top recruit in this class in the state of Indiana by the time she graduates from high school.
Ava Vickers Ava Vickers 6'0" | MB Fishers | 2023 State #107 Nation IN , 6-0, MB, Munciana 16 Ninjas (16-1), Fishers High School
Ava, another Fishers product, has multiple things going right for her. First, by playing the majority of her early career as a middle, she’s used to being bigger than her opponents. Now that she’s being some pin time, it’s obvious she’s slowly getting the attention she deserves. Jump touching close to ten feet, Ava is learning quickly from one of the best training programs in the midwest, and can now do what she needs to do at any position along the front row. Imagine what will happen if and when she figures out serve receive in all six rotations.
Cali Cummings Cali Cummings 6'1" | MB Seymour | 2023 State IN , 6-0, MB/OH, Union 15 Asics (15-1), Seymour High School
About halfway between Indianapolis and Louisville, just off of Interstate 65, is a little town called Seymour. In years past, the best volleyball talent in Seymour used to go across the Ohio River to KIVA or MAVA. These days, kids like Cali are getting just as good training closer to home, Cali is the biggest kid on a massively overachieving club team. Union prides themselves on excellent ball control and players who have high volleyball IQ’s to get the job done at any position. Cali is no exception, and her knowledge of multiple front row positions makes her quite marketable. I am looking forward to her development as the years roll on.
