Comments from Coach Christina Boesiger:
Area Most Improved in 2019
I think the area Maisie improved on most throughout the high school season was finding the perfect set for each hitter and what tempo they needed. We try to run a very fast offense, but that still needed to be individualized as to what each hitter needed for them to be most successful.
Volleyball technique
Maisie is a very disciplined volleyball player. She has a great fundamental base and works on the details of the game to increase her level of play. She likes to run a fast offense from pin to pin, always keeping the opposing blockers on their toes.
Work ethic or drive for volleyball
She works extremely hard outside of her scheduled practice times. She has a setting board in her garage which she uses consistently, watches film on her own, and gets in the gym on her own as much as possible. Maisie wants to be the best player she can be and it is evident in the amount of time she puts into training.
Role model on the team and in the community
Maisie works hard at being a positive female athlete for young girls to look up to. She loves the time at our youth leagues and summer camps to work with the future Titan volleyball players. As Maisie gets older in our program, she wants to emulate the relationships she had with the seniors when she was a freshman and sophomore. They set a great example of leadership and welcoming the freshmen to the team. Maisie has a younger sister, Malorie in 5th grade, and has loved building relationships with Malorie’s friends and the younger Titans. She remembers being closely tied to the program while I have been coaching. She has grown up in the gym, and there are so many past Titans that she looked up to. This has helped her set her own goals high.
Team insight
We had a very close team this year and are really looking forward to the 2020 season. A handful of these girls played club when they were younger together, so they are very comfortable with each other. Our team is made up of some very competitive kids, with goals of being great, so I think that is awesome. They know how to push each other, but also have fun along the way.
What does Maisie like to do when she’s not playing volleyball?
Shopping, time at the lake, baking, watching movies, hanging with friends
ALLISON GRAY, 2021, Committed to Arizona State
Comments from Coach Renee Saunders:
Area Most Improved in 2019
Her physicality, her block, being an offensive threat, and her uncanny ability to get her hitters into one on one situations.
Volleyball technique
She is very attentive to details and strives to be the best she can be. I’ve never seen a kid more committed to all facets of the game: physical, mental, tactical, technical and emotional.
Role model on the team and in the community
Since her freshman year she has really developed into a great leader on the court and off. Each year she is more and more confident with that role.
Team insight
She is our leader and also one of the most trusted players on the team. I think anyone could go to her with anything and trust that she would help them.
LIBEROS
Mak Hatcliff, Beatrice (team pictured above) Vs Skylar McCune Skylar McCune 5'9" | DS/L Gretna | 2022 State #53 Nation NE , Gretna
MAK HATCLIFF, 2021, Uncommitted
Comments from Coach Melissa Carper:
Area Most Improved in 2019
As a libero, she improved on the number of digs in a season and in a game (school records). She is only 7 digs away from the career record as a junior.
Volleyball technique
Mak’s fundamentals in digging started before high school. What makes her one the best diggers & passers is that she can take the ball outside of her body with her platform, comfortably!
Work ethic or drive for volleyball
Mak holds a lot of determination for herself when it comes to getting work done in volleyball. She wants to constantly improve. She’s not afraid of hard work!
Role model on the team and in the community
With being a three-sport athlete (bb & track) & a stand out in all three, she has demonstrated to our student body of athletes what it means to have a good work ethic and to be resilient within her sport(s).
Team insight
Our team has a fun and great team chemistry! They connect with each other on and off the court.
Can she play in the front row too?
YES! Mak has demonstrated some hitting ability and quite well! 🙂
SKYLAR McCUNE, 2022, Uncommitted
Comments from Coach Mike Brandon:
Area Most Improved in 2019
Attacking and serve receive. With the graduation of Kamryn Schuler (UNK), Skylar was tasked with becoming a primary attacker and a primary passer, roles she readily embraced.
Volleyball technique
Skylar is an aggressive and hard-working attacker. She reads extremely well and is a relentless defender.
Work ethic or drive for volleyball
Skylar works as hard as any player I have ever coached. She loves the weight room, is tireless in the gym and is passionate about the game.
Role model on the team and in the community
Her work ethic in the gym and confidence on the court has had a tremendous impact on our program’s culture.
Team insight
Like most successful teams, we have a strong team culture. Our girls have strong personal relationships and share a common goal. Our team holds one another accountable and the expectations for hard work and camaraderie are constantly reinforced in and outside of the gym.
Does Skylar have the potential to impact a Division I program?
Yes, Skylar is exactly the type of player that could have a tremendous impact on a major program at the next level. She has all of the qualities of high-level D1 liberos I’ve coached in the past.
