Now we will feature some of the names who don’t come from that conference. From private to public, here are some names you should know this season for the class of 2021.
Maggie McInerney – OH – St. Teresa’s Academy
The recent University of Chicago commit made most of her first season of varsity play for the Stars. She helped lead the team to a 27 win season. As a junior, she played primarily 3 rotations and had 271 kills. Look for her to play all the way around this fall, which will increase her dig total from 87 a year ago.
Kelly Ann Greene – MH – St. Teresa’s Academy
Another player who had a break-through season on the varsity team. She will be hungry after missing the shortened club season due to not obtaining a release to join a new team. In her junior season, she had 183 kills and 61 total blocks. Greene and McInerney should be a powerful 1-2 punch in 2020.
Kayla Smocks – DS – St. Teresa’s Academy
The Stars of St. Teresa’s return many pieces in 2020 that may put them back in the state playoffs. Smocks will again play an important piece in the back-row. In 2019, she had 142 digs for the season. In serve/receive, she passed the ball 148 times.
Nina Passantino – OH – St. Pius X
Passantino will be depended on to score points for the Warriors in 2020. Last year, Passantino had 140 kills along with 49 digs. Look for her to be the go-to hitter for St. Pius.
Brooke Miller – OH/S – Harrisonville High School
The Wildcats finished just under .500 last fall. They were a fairly young team in 2019 and they will look to build on that this fall. The catalyst this season could be Miller. As a junior, she recorded 193 kills and 131 digs. Expect these numbers to jump during her final season.
Rylee Smalley – OH – Harrisonville High School
After a year of gaining valuable varsity experience look for Smalley to shine for Harrisonville in 2020. She tallied 109 kills playing on the outside for the Wildcats. She contributed 157 digs in the back-row and will be eager to increase in both categories this fall.
Madison Krier – L/DS – Excelsior Springs High School
Every coach loves a player willing to sacrifice their body for the good of the team. Madison Krier is that type of player for Excelsior Springs. Anchoring the back-row in 2019, she had 313 digs. Krier’s receiving numbers were impressive as well, adding 353 in serve/receive.
Natalie Frese – S – Excelsior Springs High School
The Tigers return their setter in 2020 in Frese. After a 16 win season, expectations are high and the rising junior will play an important role. She dished out 448 assists last fall and should pass the 1,000 mark in her senior season.
